Because reading is better than real life

My To-Be Read List is a meme hosted by Because Reading is Better Than Real Life where at the beginning of the month visitors can choose which book I’ll be reading this month. On the first saturday of a month the poll will be up, then on the second saturday of the month I’ll announce the book that won and later that month my review will follow.

This is already my fourth time participating in this meme, when I first participated I wondered if this meme would work for me as I am a mood reader, but I found that as I choose 3 books I can still have some influence. And I actually love this meme, it’s fun to hear for which book people vote and why and to see which book get’s the most votes.
Okay below are are the 3 books on which you can vote this month, all 3 are Middle Grade books. Also I thought it was a fun coincidence that one is the first book in a series, one is the second book in a series and one is the third book in a series.

This first book of the Kitty Hawk Flying Detective Agency Series introduces Kitty Hawk, an intrepid teenage pilot with her own De Havilland Beaver seaplane and a nose for mystery and intrigue. A cross between Amelia Earhart, Nancy Drew and Pippi Longstocking, Kitty is a quirky young heroine with boundless curiosity and a knack for getting herself into all kinds of precarious situations.

After leaving her home in the western Canadian fishing village of Tofino to spend the summer in Alaska studying humpback whales Kitty finds herself caught up in an unforgettable adventure involving stolen gold, devious criminals, ghostly shipwrecks, and bone-chilling curses. Kitty’s adventure begins with the lingering mystery of a sunken ship called the Clara Nevada and as the plot continues to unfold this spirited story will have armchair explorers and amateur detectives alike anxiously following every twist and turn as they are swept along through the history of the Klondike Gold Rush to a suspenseful final climatic chase across the rugged terrain of Canada’s Yukon, the harsh land made famous in the stories and poems of such writers as Jack London, Robert Service and Pierre Berton. It is a riveting tale that brings to glorious life the landscape and history of Alaska’s inside passage and Canada’s Yukon, as Kitty is caught up in an epic mystery set against the backdrop of the scenery of the Klondike Gold Rush.

Seven kids, Thor’s hammer, and a whole lot of Valkyries are the only things standing against the end of the world.

When thirteen-year-old Matt Thorsen, a modern day descendant of the Norse god Thor, was chosen to represent Thor in an epic battle to prevent the apocalypse he thought he knew how things would play out. Gather the descendants standing in for gods like Loki and Odin, defeat a giant serpent, and save the world. No problem, right?

But the descendants’ journey grinds to a halt when their friend and descendant Baldwin is poisoned and killed and Matt, Fen, and Laurie must travel to the Underworld in the hopes of saving him. But that’s only their first stop on their journey to reunite the challengers, find Thor’s hammer, and stop the apocalypse–a journey filled with enough tooth-and-nail battles and larger-than-life monsters to make Matt a legend in his own right.

Authors K.L. Armstrong and M.A. Marr return to Blackwell in the epic sequel to Loki’s Wolves with more explosive action, adventure and larger-than-life Norse legends.

    • I really enjoyed the first book, so I am pretty sure I will enjoy the second book as well. I have no idea why I haven’t read it yet.

    • I really like the cover for Kitty Hawk and I have both an e-copy which I got for review and a paperbacxk which I won in a giveaway. It sounds like such a fun and adventurous book!

    • I really enjoyed the first book, really well written and one of the few mythology books I really enjoy. And it’s written by Kelley Armstrong, can’t go wrong there ;). I already have the next book pre-ordered and really hope to read this one before the third book releases.

    • I really enjoyed the first book, I picked it up because it’s written by Kelley Armstrong. It’s a great book and there’s some art in every chapter which is really well done. It makes me feel like a kid again, excited to see the next picture!

    • For some reason I think it’s funny you’re the second commentor which mentions those comparisons as I read right over that part of the blurb. I always block out comparisons as I am not a fan of them. I have never watcher/read Pippi or nancy, so I can’t really say much about those.
I really like the sound of Kitty Hawk and I hope the book is as good as it sounds.

    • I also picked it up because I love both authors and I really enjoyed the first book, so I am pretty sure I will enjoy the rest of the seires as well. I already have book 3 pre-ordered. And I just love the artwork, it’s so fun to have pictures in a book, you never get too old for pictures ;).
