My To-Be Read List is a meme hosted by Because Reading is Better Than Real Life where at the beginning of the month visitors can choose which book I’ll be reading this month. On the first saturday of a month the poll will be up, then on the second saturday of the month I’ll announce the book that won and on the last saturday of the month I’ll post my review of the book.
Whew what a race it was this month. I had no idea which book would win and they all got a lot of votes, then Meet Your baker got the ead and then suddenly there was a tie and eventually the tie got broken and By Book or by Crook came out as the winner. I quickly closed the pol yesterday evening to prevent another tie from happening. So here’s how much votes eahc book got:
– To Helvetica and Back (A Dangerous Type Mystery #1) by Paige Shelton – 5 votes/ 22,73%
– Meet Your Baker (A Bakeshop Mystery #1) by Ellie Alexander – 8 votes/ 36,36%
– By Book or By Crook (Lighthouse Library Mystery #1) by Eva Gates – 9 votes/ 40,91%
The Winner!
By Book or By Crook (Lighthouse Library Mystery #1)
by Eva Gates
Format: paperback
Source: bought it myself
You can find By Book or By Crook on Goodreads
Blurb:
Get bound up in murder in the first Lighthouse Library mystery! For ten years Lucy has enjoyed her job poring over rare tomes of literature for the Harvard Library, but she has not enjoyed the demands of her family’s social whorl or her sort-of-engagement to the staid son of her father’s law partner. But when her ten-year relationship implodes, Lucy realizes that the plot of her life is in need of a serious rewrite.
Calling on her aunt Ellen, Lucy hopes that a little fun in the Outer Banks sun—and some confections from her cousin Josie’s bakery—will help clear her head. But her retreat quickly turns into an unexpected opportunity when Aunt Ellen gets her involved in the lighthouse library tucked away on Bodie Island.
Lucy is thrilled to land a librarian job in her favorite place in the world. But when a priceless first edition Jane Austen novel is stolen and the chair of the library board is murdered, Lucy suddenly finds herself ensnared in a real-life mystery—and she’s not so sure there’s going to be a happy ending….
Hope you enjoy it!!

Same here, that kitty is so cute! The cat is on the other covers in this series as well. I hope it’s a good book, so I have a reason to have buy the next two books too and have those other covers on my shelf too ;).
I voted for that one, because a cat, library, and lighthouse, sounds perfect. I am curious about your thoughts on it. I hope you enjoy!

Not the one I voted for, but they all sounded good, and it has a cat on it! I once asked a cozy author about the fact that so many cozy books had cats on the cover art when there was no cat, or very little of the cat featured, it’s kind of a peeve of mine. If there’s a cat on the cover, I want a cat character darn it! She agreed with me, that it seemed like they would add a cat because they thought it would sell, even if there really wasn’t much cat in the story! lol! Hope you enjoy this one, I’m looking forward to seeing what you think!

Oh that’s interesting about the cats on the cover. I do like seeign cats on the cover, so I can kinda see how that would help make the book sell. I do agree with you if there’s a cat on the cover I want said cat to at least play a part in the book. Cats on cozy mysteries covers do seem to be pretty common and I’ve seen some with dogs too, so far most of the ones I read actually featured the animal, although in soem cases more than in others.
I hope you enjoy it! 🙂
