Lola’s Ramblings: The Bookish Seven Deadly Sins Tag

Lola’s Rambings is a feature on Lola’s Review where I talk about me. Usually these posts are everything that doesn’t fall under any standard header, like blog tours, book blitzes, cover reveals or reviews. Lola’s Ramblings posts are are personal discussions of a certain topic. Sometimes about book related topics and sometimes about non-book related topics. I got tagged by Ambur from Burning Impossible Bright to do the Bookish Deadly Seven Sins tag. It sounded like a lot of fun so I decided to participate. You can check out Amburs Bookish Seven Deadly Sins tag here.

1. Greed – What is your most inexpensive book? What is your most expensive book?

I can’t really mention one most inexpensive book, because there are quite some books I got for free. Either because of a sale or because I got a review copy. I’ve decided not to list all of those books here ;).
My most expensive book wasn’t that difficult either. It’s probably Hidden by Kelley Armstrong. It’s a novella to go with her Otherworld series and this oen features Elana and Clay, my favourite couple in the series. So I just had to have it. It’s a hardcover, limited edition and with pictures and yeah it’s pretty expensive for the amount of pages you get for that. But it’s totally worth it!

2. Wrath – What author do you have a love/hate relationship with?

I thought this one would be a difficult question, but the answer came to me rather quickly. I have a love/hate relationship with author JA Huss. I loved her Rook and Ronin series and the Ford Spin-off, but then I finished Clutch with difficulties and just didn’t find it as good as her other series. And then I didn’t enjoy her latest two new series. I couldn’t get into Come and put it down for another time and I finished Follow, but gave it two stars. So I don’t know what to think of this author anymore, she has books that I love and books that I don’t. Usually I like all books by an author, they might differ in how much I like them, but I don’t remember ever having such different feelings for different books by the same author.

3. Gluttony – What book have you devoured over and over with no shame?

The Gathering (Darkness Rising #1) by Kelley Armstrong, I have read this book 3 times I think. Once when I first got it, second when I got the second book and had to re-read the first book and then for the third time when I got the third book in this series and decided to re-read book one and two.
I normally don’t re-read books a lot, but there’s just something about this book that I fell completely in love with. I love nature and this book had a beautifull setting, I like picking it up when I need to feel immersed in nature. And then there’s an awesome story and characters and a cliffhanger, which wasn’t so much fun, but it doesn’t matter as much when you own the next two books as well.

4. Sloth – What book have you neglected reading due to laziness?

I often don’t want to start book with many pages, because it just seems like such a big task ahead. I know I can fall in love with the book, but it’s just such a big commitment to start reading a thick book. I have this issue with Deborah Harkness her All Souls trilogy. I have read the first book A Discovery of Witches and enjoyed it. Then I got the second book and whe I finally picked it up I found I forgot too much from the first book and now that means I have to re-read the first book and that basically means I have to read all 3 books after eahc other so I can remember what happens. Yeah not looking forward to that.

5. Pride – What book do you talk about most in order to sound like an intellectual reader?

I do not really try to sound like an intellectual reader, I like being honest and here on the blogosphere everyone can easily find out what kind of books I read and the people in real life are usually impressed when I only mention I read. Although they are usually less impressed when I mention I read fiction books though.
Okay let’s say I would like to impress someone for soem reason that I am an intellectual reader. I would probably mention I read some non-fiction books, like social media for dummies, a pinterest handbook and even have a big wordpress for dummies book lying around here. Or how about those books I read for Dutch in high school? Then I would mention De Donkere Kamer van Damokles (The Darkroom Of Damocles in english) by Willem Frederik Hermans, it’s well written but totally weird and out there as well. Not an enjoyable book, but I did sort of admire how at the end you started questioning everything. It was just so weird.

6. Lust – What attributes do you find attractive in male or female characters?

Let’s go for general attributes I like in male an female characters. I like characters who are honest and sweet. I like the guy or girl next door type of characters and the best friend who has the potential to become more. I love characters who have a vulnerable side as well. I don’t mind if they need help once in a while or if they might be too stubborn to ask for it. For example Nadia in Kelley’s Armstrong Nadia’s Stafford series. She’s a badass assassin, but she has nightmares from which she wakes up screaming. I love those scenes where you see her vulnerable side as well. Jack form the same series is a great exmaple for a male character as well, he brings her sweets on the most unexpected moments, because he knows she likes them. Nadia would never ask for this, but I love how Jack knows this and I think thes egestures really show his soft and sweet side.

7. Envy – What book would you most like to receive as a gift?

The books I would like most to receive as a gift right now or more accurate as a pre-order would be Deceptions (Cainsville #3) by Kelley Armstrong. I have a very limited budget for books and I try to pre-order the books from my favourite authors, because I want to have at leats those. Even though Deceptions won’t be released in abotu a year I still have this urge to pre-order it as soon as possible, so I know I’ll get it when it releases.
