LolaRamblings

Lola’s Rambings is a feature on Lola’s Review where I talk about me. Usually these posts are everything that doesn’t fall under any standard header, like blog tours, book blitzes, cover reveals or reviews. Lola’s Ramblings posts are are personal discussions of a certain topic. Sometimes about book related topics and sometimes about non-book related topics. This feature was previously known as About Me. The banner for this feature is designed by Michelle from Limabean Design.

I got tagged by Michelle from Because Reading is Better Than Real Life to do the 20 things you didn’t know about me tag, so I decided to give it a go :).

1. How tall are you?
I think I was 175 last time I checked? So that’s 5.7 feet in that strange american way of measuring lenght ๐Ÿ˜‰

2. Do you have a hidden talent? if so, what?
I am very organized, disciplined and have a flawless sense of direction. Does that count? Oh and I can get way more clothes stuffed in a suitcase then you think should fit inside.

3. What is your biggest blog-related pet peeve?
Designs with light text on a black background. I can’t stand them and it really rubs me wrong. My eyes feel uncomfortable reading it and no matter how good your content is I am less likely to return to your blog if you do this.

4. What is your biggest non-blog related pet-peeve?
People who do things without regard for the peopel aroudn them, like people who smoke without regard for the people around them or invading personal space. That sort of things.

5. Whatโ€™s your favorite song?
Uhm I don’t really listen to music all that often and when I do it’s music my boyfriend puts on and I have no clue what the titles are. Recently we’ve been listening a lot to the soundtrack for Bleach (an anime my boyfriend is rewatching), the soundtrack is pretty good.

6. Whatโ€™s your favorite etsy shop?
While I have bought a few things at etsy in the past I am not really a frequent visitor or buy multiple times from the same shop. But if I had to choose one I would go for Sophia Clothing. She sells the most gorgeous clothes and if I had more money I would love to spend it there for new clothes. A long time ago, when I still had money to spare I bought a light grey coat there with a big sweep made from cashmere and it’s still one of my favourite pieces of clothing even though I don’t wear it that often, the coat is custom made for me and it fits perfectly.

7. Whatโ€™s your favorite way to spend your free time when youโ€™re alone?
Either cuddling with my rats on the couch with a good book or in the kitchen baking up some yummy cookies or brownies, like I am currently doing ;).

8. Whatโ€™s your favorite junk food?
Pizza! I am not really a junk food eater, I prefer healty dinner and lots of cookies afterwards. The only junk food I like is pizza, I have a soft spot for pizza.

9. Do you have pets?
Hmm this doesn’t really count as something people don’t know about me, in fact I am pretty sure all my regular visitors know the answer to this one as I talk about my pets all the time. I have three pet rats called Pita, Smarties and Snickers. Smarties and Snickers are sisters, but Pita is unrelated to them, but from another nest from the same rattery. Smarties and Snickers almost look identical, only difference is that Snicker has a slightly broader head and Smarties has a white line on her belly. Below’s a picture of the three of them
Pita, Smarties and Snicker

And this is Smarties. I don’t have a nice recent close-up of Snickers.

10. What are your favorite fiction and non-fiction books?
Nope sorry not going to answer that questions. Though you can stop by this post to get to know my favourite authors.

11. Whatโ€™s your favorite beauty product?
I don’t really use any beauty products. The only thing I use is vaseline cacao radiant bodylotion as I get really dry skin especially in winter and this helps.

12. When were you last embarrassed?
I have these weird moments where I struggle with my words, like I want to say something, but I use the wrong words or stop in the middle of my sentence trying to find a word and then person I am talking to looks at me weirdly. Last example of this is when I asked my boyfriend for a glass of water and when he brought me one I looked at him weirdly as I meant a cup of milk, but I had totally said the wrong thing.

13. If you could drink one beverage for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Earl Grey Tea

14. Whatโ€™s your favorite movie?
I don’t watch a lot of movies, but if I would have to go for one I would choose Star Wars The Phantom Menace, that movie totally won me over to the Star Wars universe and sci-fi as a genre, combined with an awesome sci-fi book I read before that.

15. What were you in high school? prom queen, nerd, cheerleader, jock, valedictorian, band geek, loner, artist, etc?
I was one of the weird ‘gothic’ people, dressed in all black, I nicely fit in with the gorup of other weirdo’s that didn’t had a place in the social structure. As I went to school in the Netherlands, we didn’t quite have the same types of people as in american schools, although you still had social groups.

16. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
Germany, Scotland or one of the Scandinavian countries. All are beautifull countries with lots of nature. I went to germany on vacation multiple times and I am seriously in love with the country adn german sounds a bit like dutch, so I sorta hope I can master the language. I visited Scotland once and have longed to go back ever since. I went to Sweden on vacation once and just like with Scotland I hope to visit again. My current goal is to move to germany once I have enough money and a stable income to afford the move.

17. pc or mac?
pc. I always have had a pc computer and every time I have worked on a mac I get all confused as nothing is where I expect it to be, I just can’t work with it. I am sure it’s a matter of getting used to it, but why switch when I am happy with my pc?

18. Last romantic gesture from a crush, date, boyfriend/girlfriend?
For valentine’s day my boyfriend got me a rose and chocolates. I was so surprised to see him walk to the door with a rose in his hand as he normally doesn’t do things like that. In return I baked him brownies.

19. Favorite celeb?
I can’t even name one celeb. I don’t really pay attention to them.

20. Which blogger do you secretly want to be best friends with?
Oh I would love to be best friends with multiple bloggers, although I already think I am friend with some, but I would lvoe to get to know them better. I wish I could meet some bloggers them in real life, but on the other hand maybe online friendschips are better as I feel way less awkwards and less self conscious online than in real life.

Do you have pets? And if yes, what kind of and what are their names?

  1. I’m pretty sure everyone has a soft spot for pizza ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’m 174, just a cm shorter than you! And we probably would’ve hung out in high school because I was hanging out with the gothics and the emos hahaha, back when emo was still cool. I absolutely agree with Germany, Scotland and Scandinavia – such beautiful countries! And I’m drinking Earl Grey right now…

  2. Hey, you’re taller than me, not by much, though ! I love that picture of the 3 rats together, they look so cute. And I don’t think pizza is particularly junk food – well, it depends on what’s on it ๐Ÿ˜‰
I have 2 cats, Triskell who’s on my Sunday post picture, and Loullig who’s on my Hottie of the week pic.
Triskell is the name of a Celtic symbol, those who watch Lost girl may be familiar with it : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triskelion And Loullig means “Little ball of fur” in Breton, even if now, as he’s grown and we’re in the middle of winter, he’s a big ball of fur !
It’s a nice tag, it’s great to know you some more ๐Ÿ™‚

    • They are so adorable together, I wish I had more pictures of the three of them together, but this is one of the few good ones.

It kinda depends on how you eat your pizza, the storebrought ones count as junkfood, if you make them yourself they are more healthy. My boyfriend’s dad can make a great pizza from scratch that’s yummy and healthy. Pizza is one of those thigns I haven’t tried to make myself yet, I hate making bread as the dough has to rise and I don’t like waiting.

I really like the names of your cats and how they both have a meaning. I didn’t realize Triskell was a name of a celtic symbol, I had a period of time where I was very interested in celtic art and symbols I even have a ahow to draw celtic symbol book somewhere.

If you haven’t done this tag yet, consider yourself tagged ;). It’s a fun tag indeed!

  3. Haha you made me laugh so many times Lola! I just love these posts. Finally someone answering these that I’m not a giant next to (I’m 5’11.5″ in our crazy American measurements lol). I’m a PC girl too – I’m actually anti Mac, so ^5! Man, I wish you lived closer – I need some brownies and pizza ๐Ÿ™‚ oh and yep, I have a dog, names Buffy. I just love your rats – you’ve really changed the way I think of rats. Never thought of them as pets until getting to know you!

    • Same here, these post are always fun to read. Dutch people are pretty long I think compared to the rest of the world, here my lenght is pretty normal. I also wished you all lived closer so I could bake brownies and talk about books with you all. And I am so happy I changed the way you think about rats.

  4. Well, 175 sounds more like a weight number to me (American) instead of height..lol. I don’t know how you tell your rats apart they all look the same to me..lol. Do you just let them run around your house? (I have some non pet mice I would like to get rid of..lol)
Stormi recently posted…Waiting on Wednesday: PrudenceMy Profile

    • Nope 175 is most definitely a lenght number ;), although I asumed the cm measurement didn’t mean much to american so I converted it. Once you know them you can spot the differences, Pita has lighter fur then the other, you can’t see it as clearly on the pictrues but her fur is light grey. The others are a darker shade of grey and smarties has a smaller/ different shaped face then Snickers, when they where little they looked even more alike. We don’t let them run around the house, they have a big cage and when their cage get’s cleaned they can sit on the couch (covered by a pink towel and with a blue fleece on top, which you can see in the picture of the three of them). You have to be carefull when you let rats run around as they might bite cables or run into some dust and dust isn’t good for their lungs.

  5. Fun getting to know you post!

Well I am about a half a head taller than you (American who does the weird measurements).
I eat pizza at least every other week so I guess its a big favorite with me too.
School was a while ago and we really didn’t have those designations, but I was into sports and music and I got excellent marks. I was shy, didn’t talk much and didn’t make friends easily so not sure which group that would put me in. Haha!
I’ve had a cats, dogs, fish and hamsters at different times, but at the moment my only pet is Simon our cat.
I’m not a tea or coffee drinker so the only hot drinks I will try are hot chocolate and hot cider.
I would love to visit Scotland though there are several places here in America that I still want to see. I love Maine, Utah, Wyoming and California for natural beauty places so far.

    There, that’s a bit about me. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • I don’t eat pizza very often, but I do love it. I was a shy and quiet person as well in school and while I studied hard I didn’t got the best marks, that changed in university when all the studying actually paid off as that better fit with my interests.
I would love to visit the US once, but I am terrified of planes, so I don’t think I will. Guess I will experience america through books and pictures.

  6. Oh my goodness! You’re tall – well, compared to me, anyway. ๐Ÿ™‚ I would like to live in Scotland…I think I would anyway. I’ve only read about it but I’m going to visit someday. I’m glad you tagged for this Lola. It was great fun to learn more about you, my friend! ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Your herd babes are so cute ๐Ÿ™‚ They always make me smile.

Text on blogs is a biggie. Either like you were saying or one I was trying to get to know since she visited had a very small cursive font. It was SO hard to read it would take me 4-5 times longer than any other blog to figure out what the review was saying. Just can’t do that.
