My Cover Review:
I love the new covers for this series! I actually bought the first book when it still had the first cover and this is the second redesign, but I think these covers might be my favorite of them all. Even though the previous covers fit the series as well, these seem to more seamlessly combine both the sci-fi and Japanese feel of these books in the covers as well. The sci-fi with the bold colours and futuristic feel of the slightly spacey background. And the Japanese feel comes from the family crest used on the covers.

I like how the whole series matches and the design is simple with the crest and title in the middle, the plants or other symbols that sprout from behind the crest and then the mostly one colour as the background. I think the design works well and the covers look gorgeous. Definitely covers that would make me curious about the books and now as I already read them I can say that I think they fit the feel of the books.

    • Like Pajonas said these aren’t fantasy. They are light on the sci-fi, but I would categorize them as sci-fi. I read the first few books while I still believed I didn’t like sci-fi and loved. There’s lots of focus on the characters and their relationships and it has that Japanese feel her other books have as well. I love the new covers, they really fit the books.

    • You’re welcome! I really enjoyed organizing this reveal for you and seeing these covers around all day. And these new covers are so pretty!

  2. These are great! I love how they’re so eye-catching and colorful without overdoing it. And they definitely are cohesive. I didn’t actually realize these books were sci-fi, I thought they were fantasy? I guess that was the vibe I got from the previous covers. So you’re right, these do a good job of portraying the Japanese and sci-fi aspects. And of course my favorite is Revealed because red and black! 😛

    • They are sci-fi/ post apocalyptic with a focus on the characters and their relationships, light on the sci-fi. The society is mostly Japanese and they fight with swords and such, so maybe that’s why you thought they were fantasy. And indeed the previous covers had a more fantasy feel and character focused, while these have a more sci-fi feel. I think the cover for Removed is my favorite, I like the colours and the crest on that one.

    • This is so interesting! Thank you for your comment, Kristen! I knew my old covers were nice and all, but they didn’t convey the right genre. In fact, I had no idea which genre they really pointed to! I was just advised to put people on the covers or SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES. Lol. It was last year that I did research on the scifi covers on Amazon, understood what said “Scifi” in a cover, and then hired someone to redo them all. I’m glad these covers do a much better job of portraying the right genre.

      • I do think these covers better portray the sci-fi genre. Although I also see the point of the advice you got to people on the covers. People on covers seems pretty common lately and it often points to the focus on the characters, which does fits the Nogiku series. But yes I think these new cover better portray the right genre. I never really saw the previous covers as saying fantasy, but then I already knew what the books were about so that probably clouded my judgment.
