sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This week was again a struggle with lots of gloomy days and low energy and low mood due to it. We did have two sunnier days which was lovely and I felt a lot better those days. I’ve also taken to using my daylight lamp a bit later in the day as else I was so tired in the evenings and didn’t feel well, using the daylight lamp makes me feel a bit more alive during the evenings.

We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving here, but the Black Friday discounts have been going for the whole month already. I got a few things I needed with the discounts, which was nice. We do have the Sinterklaas holiday here in 5 December, but that’s mostly for kids, but there is a lot of good candy that’s only available this time of year which we’ve been enjoying. A local bakery here makes some very good Speculaas Staaf, which is this spiced soft cookie filled with almond paste.

And an update on my mom. I got the good news that she was able to go home last Thursday, so that’s good news she doesn’t have to stay at the hospital. I had called earlier in the week and she was still improving, although her wound will take a while time to heal.

What did I read this week?

Divination and DeceitAutumn Tales From Cozy Vales

Divination and Deceit was a fun paranormal cozy mystery book and I really liked this book and seeing the characters grow closer. It had an interesting mystery and I liked the side character who did divination using frozen peas.
Autumn Tales From Cozy Vales was a good cozy fantasy anthology with an autumn theme and I enjoyed most of the stories.
Playing the Game had a good variety of steamy content, but it lacked some character depth to fully hook me.
I also finished a nonfiction book Birds of the Pacific Northwest For Kids, which was great and I liked learning about a wide variety of birds and interesting facts about them.

This week I blogged about:

Review: Cursed Cocktails by S.L. Rowland
Review: One Sharp Stitch by Allie Pleiter
Review: The Hellhound Growl by Ariana Jade

  1. I’m glad the daylight lamp is helping. I don’t know if they are available where you live but we can get daylight light bulbs for all our lighting fixtures, they might be something to consider. They don’t cost any more than normal lightbulbs, your local hardware store could advise.
Enjoy your Sinterklass treats and wishing you a good week.

Oh I hadn’t heard of daylight light bulbs before, I’ll have to look if that’s a thing here. Thanks for the tip!

Glad I could remind you of your daylight lamp, I am glad I have one as it’s one of the few things that actually helps during this time 🙂

I can definitely recommend the daylight lamp, it’s one of the few things that really seems to help for my energy levels this time of year.

  2. I’m glad your mom is doing better and was able to go home. I love this time of year with the gloomy days. It’s the bright sunlight, sunny days that make me feel down. I bought a few things on sale on Amazon too.

I have heard some people have the opposite with the sunny days making them feel down. The weird thing is that I don’t even like summer and the super warm sunny days, but my brain seems to work a lot better with the sunlight.

  3. I love that you got a Thanksgiving blessing with your mom going home from the hospital even without it being a holiday for you. 🙂 It has been cloudy days and early nights here so I understand you wanting to use your day lighting longer. I’ve enjoyed stringing up some of our holiday lights to give some pretty light glow to the evenings, but I haven’t quite gotten to dragging out all the holiday decorations yet. Hopefully you’ll get some yummy Sinterklass cookies for the holiday.

    Have a good week, Lola!

I hadn’t even thought of that that it happened on Thanksgiving, it sure was some good news. We got a small fake Christmas tree that we want to put on, probably next week. The holiday lights this time of year are always so festive. Hopefully you can finish decorating soon. And I plan to buy a few more Sinterklaas treats before they aren’t sold anymore.

  4. Glad your mom was able to go home. That’s always nice to know they can go home and not have to be in the hospital. I am sorry about the gloomy days for you. I’m just dealing with plumbing issues that are going to be expensive and not even getting to be in my own home since Friday, so that is making me really down right now. The plumbers are at my house right now, so hoping by the end of the day they have it fixed and I can come back home.

I was glad to hear she could be at home and not at the hospital, although I do think she struggled a bit with the change and adjusting to being at home and having people over to help with cleaning her wound and such. That sounds bad those plumbing issues, I’ll try to stop by your blog later so I can read about it. Not being able to be in your home is stressful. I hope it gets resolved quickly.
