The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.
What happened this week?
This week was stressful and tiring. On Monday our windows got replaced, they arrived 45 minutes earlier than they said they would be here, so it was rushing to get everything ready. We had done a lot the night before, but not everything could be done in advance. There also was a desk we thought would be fine, but turned out to be in the way. I visited my mom and her husband during the renovations as people in our house stress me out and I can’t handle the loud noises. Luckily the window replacing went smoothly and they were done quite early, which was good as there was a lot of clean up to do and putting things back in their normal place again.
The rest of the week they worked on replacing windows in other apartments in our complex and there had been a lot of noise from that. I felt overwhelmed and disregulated a lot as due to my autistic sensory sensitivities I don’t deal well with loud noises. The renovation activities will likely continue for a few more weeks I think as there is stuff they do on the outside of the complex as well. I got a headache as well after sleeping wrongly and tensing up due to the noise.
Reading wise I really struggled this week, I couldn’t get into any books, I DNF’d a lot of them, I think 3 in this week. And then eventually I just embraced it and did other stuff. The review copies are piling up, but hopefully soon I get back into reading more and can get through some of them. I did finish a really good science fiction book with an autistic main character, so that was nice. I also did a lot of gaming, I am replaying a favorite game of mine. I also baked some chocolate chip snickerdoodles that turned out well.
What did I read this week?
I didn’t list the 3 books I DNF’d.
Key Lime Sky was the book I didn’t know I needed, a science fiction story with alien abductions and strange happenings and a nonbinary autistic main character who has to save the town. It had a lovely romance as well and some nice sweet and touching moments in between the more hectic saving the town type of scenes.
This week I blogged about:
– Review: Her Texas Cowboy by Casey Dawes
– Review: All For Knot Book One by Ember Blaze
– Review: Back to Belfast by Emma L McGeown
What to expect next week on the blog:
– Review: Monster’s Past by Laura Greenwood
– Review: Love Across the Tabletop by Kait Disney-Leugers
Hope those new windows will give you a comfortable winter! Key Lime Sky sounds good.
I hope so too, the new windows should improve matters. Key Lime Sky was really good.
I’ve got people coming to do the back fence in a couple weeks. I took the second half of the day off due to a doctor appointment, but them being here will put a little bit of a hitch in what I’d hoped would be a quick stop home to let the dogs out before the doctor visit, so will see how that goes. Hope you have a better week. Key Lime Sky is one I’ve seen around and thought looked good!
It’s always a bit of a hassle when things like that have to happen. I hope your back fence work will go smoothly. Key Lime Sky was really good, so glad I picked it up.
Hopefully there are no more renovations or fixes need for a while.
I hope so too. For now the current renovations will likely last a few more weeks, but the parts inside our house should be done now I think.
I empathize with you over the noise and disruption. I hope you’re able to get some relief from the noise in the evenings? And you have probably thought of it, but just in case you haven’t: could you wear ear protection headphones like construction workers use, or at least noise-cancelling headphones? It might help.

Yes luckily the evenings bring some relief from the noise. I actually have a pair of ear protection headphones like that and they’re the only ones that help against the really loud noises, but it does get a bit uncomfortable if I have to wear it for longer than a short while.
Well hopefully the windows will be done soon and will be more energy efficient for winter. I sometimes wear my earbuds to reduce noise even when I’m not listening to an audiobook. So sometimes I have on the earbuds most of the day.

The new windows should be more energy efficient, so I am curious to see if we notice it in our energy bills this winter. I have earplugs I wear when things are noisy, usually they work great, but they didn’t help much with this type of noise. I even have some headphones for construction noise that help, but I can’t wear those for long.
Sometimes it’s best just to give yourself a break — I sometimes can’t read when stressed either. Hope you feel better soon!

It seemed to help to not read as much for a bit and after a few days I got the urge to read again.
Even without autism, I would find the window renovations disruptive and tough on my sensibilities. Good move going to your folks and taking a break from reading to do your games and some baking while its going on.
Have a good week, Lola!
The window renovations sure were stressful, glad to have that done and it was nice not being at home when the actual window replacing happened. It was good to take a break from reading and do some other things and this week my reading urge returned again :).
We’re about to get a major bathroom renovation done, so I’m bracing myself for the noise and chaos of having work done in the house. It’s going to be tough, for sure!! Hope things wrap up soon by you!
That sounds stressful having a major bathroom renovation coming up. I hope it all goes well!
Yep, when I get that way, I put the books aside and watch tv shows or movies. Hope things quiet down soon. At least you should be cozy warm this winter with new windows. Have a good week!
It was good to focus on watching things and gaming instead of reading, this week the reading urge was back again. I definitely hope it will be cozy warm this winter with the new windows.
