The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.
What happened this week?
This week didn’t go as smoothly as I had hoped. I got a few of those things done that need to get done once in a while like cleaning the washing machine. And the water in our kitchen sink isn’t flowing away as quickly, so I tried to fix that. I used baking soda and vinegar as well as a plunger, but so far I haven’t succeeded in unclogging it. If anyone has some ideas on how to resolve it without harsh chemicals, please let me know. I am hoping to give it another try next week.
Work wise I switched up my planning a bit. A new tour got booked and I worked on that, the sign up post is now live for this fantasy adventure book. I am also working on a review opportunity for the same book. And I did some assistant work as well.
What did I read this week?
A Wreck of Witches was awesome. And I can definitely recommend Murder Uncorked to fans of the cozy mystery genre. I also finished an ARC of Tilli’s Second Chance by S.J. Pajonas, which will release in Pets in Space 8.
This week I blogged about:
– Review: Storm Forged by Lindsay Buroker
– Review: Something Wild & Wonderful by Anita Kelly
What to expect next week on the blog:
– Review: Shadow Beasts by Nellie H. Steele
– Review: Vinyl Resting Place by Olivia Blacke
Tours open for sign-up on Lola’s Blog Tours:
– Review Opportunity: Omitted Pieces by Stephanie Hansen
– Review Opportunity: Blackbriar Cove by Jennifer Silverwood
– Review Opportunity: Brave Women at Work Lessons in Confidence
– Book Blitz: Adventures of Takuan from Koto by Ryu Zhong – 11 till 15 September – New!
– Book Blitz: The Final Haunt by Kat Mayor – 18 till 24 September
– Blog Tour: Pets in Space 8 – 3 till 16 October
A plumber once told me to flood the clogged pipes with vinegar, wait a while, and then flood the pipes again with boiling water to flush everything out. He didn’t recommend baking soda, but I sometimes add it to the sink with a little water to prevent a full blockage.
I’ll try more vinegar and boiling water instead. Hopefully that will help.
Sadly vinegar and baking soda are what I know to work on a clogged drain, but I’ll check around if someone uses a different good method. Yay for having a tour booking and get some extra work done this week. Looks like you had a fabulous reading week, too.
Have a great week, Lola!

Those were the two things I knew of too, so I was annoyed when it didn’t work. I also tried some boiling water and soap, but maybe I have to add more.
I was glad for the new tour booking and good reading week.
I think Bicarbonate of Soda works better than baking powder but either with vinegar tends to be okay especially when chased with boiling water… Don’t know of any other non-harsh chemical ways, I’m afraid. Good luck!

I’ll give more boiling water a try, maybe there wasn’t enough of that. I used soda instead of baking powder indeed.
I’ve used the same approach with clogged pipes. Sometimes they can be stubborn though. Hopefully you won’t have to deal with it too long.

We got a plumber to look at it, but they couldn’t fix it yet, so another person with a special tool needs to come and look at it now.
We have these long, thin hard plastic things you can buy at the hardware stores that you stick down the drain and try to push down whatever is stuck in the drain, I don’t know if you have anything like that there.

I’ll have to see what they are called here and see if I can buy one. Thanks for the tip!
Sorry about the drain. If you think it might be built up grease or something, try salt and hot water. It sometimes helps especially if it still draining some.
I never heard of using salt before, thanks for the tip!
I use the same methods. It can take several attempts though.

Thanks for the advice. I tried it a few times already. I think in this case the problem might be too bad for us to fix it ourselves by now 🙁
If grease/fat is the likely culprit, lots of degreaser dishwashing soap first, let sit for 15 minutes then pour in vinegar followed with lots of boiling water. You need to do it every hour until it clears. Plunging generally isn’t as effective as a plumbers snake, which you can pick up cheap.
I like the sound of A Wreck of Witches.
Wishing you a great reading week

Thanks for the advice. I didn’t know about letting the soap sit for a bit, but that makes sense, I’ll try that next time. I’ll have to look up what a plumbers snake is here, maybe we can get one for the next time.
Usually, when plunging and baking soda/vinegar don’t work, I get a plumber to come out and snake the drain. Sometimes, it just needs to be moved manually and chemicals aren’t going to help.

Good to know that if that doesn’t work the problem is bigger than we can resolve. We ended up getting someone to come and check. The plumber had something with him to try and clean it, not sure if that was a snake, but they couldn’t fix it. And now another plumber with some specialized tool will need to come and fix it instead.
