sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This wasn’t a very smooth week as there were multiple appointments. The weather also has been very warm, but at least the humidity has been low so far, so that helps a bit. Even so I wish it would cool down a bit as our house gets really warm and it’s tough to work when it’s so hot. Next week we get more rain and humidity, while the temperatures aren’t predicted to go down as much, so that might be even worse.

We had someone stop by to fix our leaking faucet, which should’ve been an easy fix, but it turned out to be more complicated as he noticed something else that needed to be fixed first. So now we’re waiting on a message about that first before we get our faucet fixed. I am glad the guy was so helpful and pointed it out, but it’s a shame to still not have our faucet fixed.

Then later the week a mechanic stopped by for boiler maintenance. It didn’t take too long and he replaced a small part and then was on his way again. Then late in the week I had a doctor appointment for my headaches. He told me they are migraines and I got new painkillers to try for next time and some instructions to start with painkillers as son as I spot the first twinges of pain. So hopefully that helps, if not I can come back again and we try something new.

Besides that I did work when I could, but didn’t get everything done I had hoped to do this week. I finished up a task for one of my authors early in the month, in hopes of keeping my late month a bit calmer and this task could be done earlier. I also made a start on a larger website project for one of my authors. I did some of the usual assistant work tasks in between. And I put a new sign up post live for a historical fiction blog tour as well as a crime mystery blog tour. An author for a review opportunity switched the copies available to a limited amount of paperbacks and once I notified my tour hosts of it, they all got snapped up super quickly.

What did I read this week?

Fatalities and FoliosHigh Jinx

I enjoyed Fatalities and Folios. It’s the first book in a new series and a good start to it. I liked main character Poe and her best friend, but the mystery didn’t grip me as much. The setting in Scotland was fun and I am curious to see where the series goes next and how that works with side characters as they’re traveling around.
High Jinx was the second book in this urban fantasy series and it was a great read. I wasn’t a fan of some of the family drama, but I liked seeing the romance progress and the plot with the cursed paintings.

This week I blogged about:

Review: California Sunshine by Chris Mor
Review: Emerald Mage by Dorothy Dreyer

  1. Yeah, you had a rough week with all the appointments both to and from people. Hopefully things will settle down including the hot weather so you can concentrate and get some work done but also feel comfortable. I do like the sound of your new ACF Bookens series.
    Have a good week, Lola!

    • It sure was a rough week and I am annoyed things like the faucet still aren’t fixed. The weather has cooled down a bit at least. The new ACF Bookens series is off to a good start.

  2. I hope your migraine meds work out. I know from friends that migraines are no fun. And I hope you can get your faucet fixed soon.

I’ll have to check out that Kelley Armstrong series. I’ve only recently been introduced to her via A Stitch in Time, but I enjoyed her writing and I’m intrigued by the variety of genres and subgenres she writes in.

    • The migraines really are no fun, I hope these new meds help and if not they said I can come back in a few months to try something else.

I like Kelley Armstrong’s series and this one is a good one. I also enjoyed A Stitch in Time and look forward to the third book in that series!
