sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was a pretty decent week. It was a good week for work and I got some non work related tasks fit in. I finally cleaned out my freezer and defrosted it. That should’ve happened months ago, but I kept putting it off. It’s nice to have finally gotten that done. My back is almost fully back to normal, although I have to be careful as the muscles there still feel a bit weak, so I am keeping up with my back excersises for now and hope it continues to improve. I also did a video chat with my sister, I hadn’t spoken to her in a while, so it was fun to catch up.

And now for the best news. I think my computer issues have finally be fixed. I am so happy about this. After weeks and weeks of dealing with this, it finally seems to be over. It hasn’t crashed in a few days, although I am still wary that it will go wrong again. Our theory of a driver update fixing it was correct and we finally hit the right driver or maybe combination of drivers that resolve it.

It was a bit quieter with tour work, so I focused on some other work tasks and fit some more assistant work in. I worked on an upcoming promotion and giveaway for Lola’s Blog Tours and drafted the next newsletter for my authors. I sent out the media kit for the tour starting next week and did a bit of social media posting.

Food Corner

And on food related news, we ate the first “oliebollen” of the season. “Oliebollen” literally translate to something like oil balls or oil buns. They are deep fried dough balls and sometimes have raisins or apple in them as well. They are commonly eaten on new Year’s eve, but a local bakery did an early sale this weekend, so we snatched some up. This bakery makes some of the best oliebollen I’ve tasted. Picture is below.

And I tried a new recipe for meat pies (with vegetarian minced meat in my case). It took a bit of time to make the dough and tweak the sauce to my taste, but the end result was great. The dough was buttery and tasted great and the sauce had a rich flavor. And now that I have the recipe figured out, hopefully it will go smoother making these next time. I made some in muffin tins as well as a bigger pie.

And I tried a new recipe for cabbage pancakes, which were delicious and I already made them twice. And quite easy to make too.

What did I read this week?

Delivering Evil for ExpertsCyborg LegacyHelp My Facebook ads suckMy Safe HavenEater of Lives

This was a great reading week and I finished multiple books. Delivering Evil for Experts was a great read and an awesome ending to this series. It had some interesting twists and turns and reveals and the epilogue was awesome. Cyborg Legacy was a novella that takes place after the end of this series. I liked getting a glimpse into the characters lives a few years later now and there is another adventure too. Help My Facebook Ads Suck didn’t really resonate with me, but had some great information about Facebook ads. My Safe Haven was the last book in the Lyrics of Love series and I enjoyed Jace and Jenna’s romance. Eater of Lives was another solid installment in this series. There’s another case as well as personal problems the couple has to deal with and it was an engaging read. I also read Creating Unforgettable Characters, which sadly didn’t resonate with me at all.

This week I blogged about:

Falling Into Magic

I got Falling Into Magic for review from the author. I look forward to reading this one as it sounds good. And I got an audio copy of A Flock and a Fluke from Tantor Audiobooks. I really enjoyed the first book in the series, so I hope I’ll enjoy this one too.

  1. Yes, that does sound like an all-around good week. Super news that your computer is repaired and you got that dreaded defrosting task out of the way. I was trying to imagine the Oliebollen the way you describe it and it sounds like what are ‘fritters’ here. Definitely delicious. Your meat pies sound yummy.
Whew, you did have a grand reading week to finish all those. Too bad a couple didn’t take for you, but looks like most were good reading. πŸ™‚

    Enjoy your week, Lola!

    • I am so glad my computer seems to be repaired and that I got my freezer defrosted. They do sound similar to fritters indeed. The (vegetarian) meat pies were great, I am glad I tried them. It sure was a good reading week πŸ™‚

I learn so much about different foods here and love it so much, Lovely Lola. I’ve never heard of a cabbage pancake, but what a great idea to try something new with cabbage! That oliebollen sounds pretty yummy too! I apologize because it’s been quite some time since I’ve visited, but I hope your back is doing better and that you’re taking care of yourself. Yay to speaking with your sister. I bet that was fun. You’re reminded me that I need o defrost my freezers too, and man have I been putting that task off(lol) Continue to feel better and sending lots of hugs, RO

    • The cabbage pancakes were delicious and I am happy I got to try them. And I am glad we got to eat some oliebollen already this year, they’re great. No problem for not visiting, I know how busy live can get. My back is doing better luckily. It’s nice to have a defrosted freezer, I put it off way too long this time. I hope you can defrost yours soon!

  3. Iza

I never thought cabbage pancakes existed but hey, why not ? Or with other vegetables ?… You’re giving me ideas. The oliebollen make me think of the french “bugnes”, they’re fried too but they have a specific shape. Fingers crossed for your computer πŸ˜‰ Stay safe !

    • The cabbage pancakes were great. And I think it would definitely work with other vegetables as well, I have some ideas I want to try next. I google the bugnes and those have a fun shape indeed. The Oliebollen are usually vaguely round shaped. Looks like the taste would be similar to the bugnes you have.

    • I am so glad the computer problem seems to be fixed. It was so annoying to deal with. I hope you get to try oliebollen once :). They are great.

    • It was a good week and I am glad my back is doing better and the computer issues seem to be fixed. And I got to try some new recipes as well πŸ™‚

    • Maybe you get the chance to try oliebollen once. If you like fried dough, you would probably like them :). I am so happy my computer seems to be doing well.

  4. You must be so pleased that your computer seems to be behaving itself! Fingers crossed it stays that way:)). I love the idea of cabbage pancakes, which sound really comforting for those long, dreary days… And delighted to hear that your back is improving. I hope the coming week is a really good one, Lola.

    • So far my computer has been doing well. The cabbage pancakes are really good. I’ll have to post the recipe on my blog eventually.
