sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

Another decent, but busy week. Just like the previous weeks we’re still working on figuring out our new routine, most things are going smoother now luckily. This week was fairly busy with work. I did my usual amount of assistant work hours. As well as some Lola’s Blog Tours work. I am working on a new review opportunity. And a new tour sign-up went live this week for a Middle Grade book blitz. We have physical review copies available for all four books in the series as well as audiobook copies for book 1, so if you like MG books check out the tour sign-up here.

I did end up with a massive headache that lasted about two days this week. Which was a pain, but luckily I still got some work done even with the headache. I also made some time for reading and gaming again this week. I’ve been playing a game called Eastshade which is quite fun and relaxing, as well as Outward which we’re still playing.

I didn’t get as much blogging done as I had hoped, but I did pick the winners and send out the prizes for the giveaway I ran for two e-copies of Finding Tranquility. I had a lot of fun running a giveaway again and the whole gifting through Smashwords thing went smoothly. I already have my next giveaway planned for later this year :).

And I have a new food picture again this week. This is an udon dish I made once before, but I only made pictures this time. It’s a very simple recipe and done in about 15 minutes. I still have to type of the recipe post for it. It’s makes for a great snack.

What did I read this week?

Murder at the Fortune's Teller TableAurora BlazingA Dance of water and AirFractured Girl vs Reckless Boy

This was a good reading week with 4 finished books or which 3 books got a 4 star rating and only one book i didn’t like. Murder at the Fortune’s Teller Table was a great cozy mystery read. The mystery was good and I was happy to be back with these characters solving another mystery. I hope to get caught of with this series again. Aurora Blazing was awesome as well. I really liked the audiobook version of this one, the narrator did an awesome job with it. I really liked main character Bianca and the romance was well done, although I didn’t care as much about the first part where they kept arguing with each other, but once they got past that it was great. A Dance of water and Air has such an awesome set-up and concept and I liked the political storyline, but besides that it just didn’t work for me. I didn’t care about the characters, the romance fell flat, the world building was lacking, too much telling instead of showing, the story was slow and didn’t keep my attention and there was hardly any magic. It was my first 2 star read of the year. Fractured Girl vs Reckless Boy was awesome, but also sad and heartbreaking at time.s This is Willow’s story and she goes through some really tough stuff in this book, but the happy ending at the end was awesome. It also was fun read about Harper and Tane again.

Food Corner

For this week’s food corner I wanted to put the spotlight on these delicious vanilla chocolate chip cookies. These were supposed to be red velvet cookies, but I didn’t have red food coloring, so I just named them vanilla chocolate chip cookies and don’t bother with the food coloring. They are delicious. The cookie dough has both cacao powder and vanilla extract which causes that red velvety taste. And it has chocolate chips. These cookies are delicious and when I was craving some chocolate cookies this week I knew these would be perfect.

  1. Glad you got plenty of work done and were able to relax with your games and books. Bummer about the headache interrupting your week. Those noodles look good. Oh yes, those vanilla-chocolate chip cookies sound delicious.
Way to go finishing four books this week and enjoying most of them.

    Have a great week, Lola!

  2. I loved Aurora Blazing too! And I think that’s the first time I’ve ever loved an enemies-to-lovers trope. Like, I could SEE why they were always at each other’s throats and I was pleasantly frustrated with each of them. So the relief was palpable when they finally stopped and listened to each other. Really done well to evoke all those emotions in me! Sorry to hear about your headache. It’s been a few weeks since I’ve had one. I know I’m due soon. I hope they hold off for a while.

    • The enemies to lovers trope usually doesn’t work for me, but I did enjoy Aurora Blazing. Like you said it made sense why they were at each other’s throats, although that didn’t stop me from getting annoyed at their argument at times, but I just wish it had lasted a bit shorter so we could’ve seen them together a bit longer. It was so great when they finally started listening and grew closer.

The headache was a nasty one with how long it lasted. I hope you won’t get a headache anytime soon, they’re a pain.

  3. I’m sorry about the headache – it’s horrible when it drags on. You had a great reading week, Aurora Blazing is one of those books I want to get hold of during this year. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I hope you’re having another good, busy week – and pain free:)

    • It really is horrible when a headache drags on like that. Luckily this week was headache free. I hope you get around to reading or listening to that series, it’s a great sci-fi series.
