sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was a busy week, but I also managed to take two days off. The first three days I did as much work as I could and after those three days I was so tired, I also hadn’t slept well. I put two new sign-up posts live (one blog tour and one review opportunity), I had a blog tour running and plenty of assistant work to keep me busy.

Then Thursday and Friday I took two days off from work. On Thursday we visited a zoo, which was a lot of fun. It was a beautiful day, sunny, but not too warm and it was fun to see all the animals. It was quite busy in the zoo though, so that was a bit tiring and at times it was hard to find a good spot to watch the animals. On Friday we had to go to dentist for check-up (everything was fine luckily) and I ran some other errands, I didn’t do any work that day either. There’s also some stuff around the house we got done. One of our plants got infected with mite that we had to throw out unfortunately. Although those two days off weren’t as relaxing as I had hoped it was still nice to not work for two whole days. I should try and do that more often.

After that it was back to work again. I am surprised how much work seem to pile up with only two days off, so Saturday I tried my best to catch up again a bit, which was tiring. I am still a bit behind, but I hope next week I can get caught up again. It also was my birthday this week and I baked a cheesecake for myself to celebrate. It’s delicious. I hope to spend some of the money I got for my birthday on books today. I also have some more work and blogging stuff I hope to catch up on.

What did I read this week?

SummonedRival Princes

Summoned was a decent read, I loved the start of the book, Zahara and the whole jinn world building. But I struggled a bit with the pace, how certain events lacked impact and how character motivations and emotions were a bit lacking. Rival Princess was a fun romance read with an unique setting. I liked the uniqeu setting of a theme park and it was just exactly the type of fun sweet romance I was in the mood for.

This week I blogged about:

Review: Spellcaster Academy Episode 1 by Jenetta Penner
Review: Starseers by Lindsay Buroker

What to expect next week on the blog:

– Review: Tails From the deep by Diane Vallere

Besides that I hope to read and review Mortal trinity and get my review up for that or if I can’t finish it in time I might move another review forward.

Book Haul:

Rival PrincesMortal TrinityMischief and Mayhem

Rival Princes sounded so fun and with an unique setting that I bought a copy. It takes place in a fictional fairytale theme park. I am almost finished and bought book 2 as it’s a lot of fun to read. Mortal trinity I got for review and it the last book in the series. I am a bit afraid to start it.

Which type of pie could you go for right now?

    • I only have bad boston cream pie once and it was delicious. I’ll have to see if I can find a good recipe for that to make it sometime.

It’s wonderful that you took some much needed time off, and love that you visited a zoo. I haven’t been in years, and would love to do that one day soon. The only thing about taking time is that it seems like the work piles up like crazy when you come back! (lol) Happy belated birthday, and there’s nothing better than having some extra cash for books. Hugs, RO

    • I really like to visit a zoo once in a while. The work sure seems to pile up quickly, especially as it’s been a busy time for work.

  2. I don’t like visiting zoo or they have to be rather like National Parks big because I hate seeing animals in cages! Anyway glad that your days off were enjoyable and let’s hope that you’ll catch up really quick on work! Happy Sunday

    • I see your point, sadly we only have one national park in my country that I know off. This zoo does look great and seem to take good care for the animals. I’ve been to a zoo once where all the animals looked stressed and that was no fun.

    • It’s hard to bring up motivation to switch on the oven when it’s hot as the oven only makes it warmer. Luckily we seem to be over the warmest part of our summer now. It’s fun to spend some money on books around your birthday.

    • Thanks! I guess we both had the same thought to make cheesecake for our birthday.s I hope you had a great birthday and that your pie was delicious!

  3. A belated Happy Birthday, Lola! I am glad you managed to get a couple of days off – the trouble with working for yourself is often allowing yourself sufficient downtime:). I hope the coming week isn’t too hectic:)

    • Thanks! It was nice to take a couple of days off, I should do so more often. It really is the difficulty of working for yourself to make sure you have enough downtime.

  4. Even if you didn’t get much rest, two days off are a good mental break from work. Neat that you got to go visit the zoo animals and had a good dental visit (my last check-up left me with four extra appointments to get teeth fixed). Hope your birthday cheesecake was delicious.

The Rival Princes book does sound fun and hopefully your last in the Mortal Trinity book is a fab series finish.

    Have a good week, Lola!

    • It was a good mental break from work even if I didn’t have much rest. I am glad I had a good dental visit, I am always afraid for extra appointments to get things fixed after that happened a few years ago. I hope your appointments go well.

I had a lot of fun with Rival Princes. I just finished Mortal Trinity and it was a great ending to an awesome series.

  5. Took a peek at Rival Princes after you mentioned it and oh my gosh, I’m keen on trying that. I may have to buy that immediately. It sounds fun! Hope your week ahead treats you well–happy reading, as always!

    • Thanks it was a good birthday! It was nice to have two days off even though they weren’t as relaxing as I had hoped. Oh it’s been a while since I had apple pie, that does sound good right now.

    • Key lime pie sounds great! I don’t think I ever had an actual key lime pie, only lemon pies. It was nice to have two days off, but less fun to return to the piled up work afterwards.
