sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was a pretty okay week mostly. I am still not out of my funk, but I do have some better days and am hopeful I am working in the right direction at least. It’s just going slowly, but even slow progress is progress. The weather turned a bit colder this week and we had some rain as well. I still managed to go out for a walk most days, as I believe it helps me get out of my funk slowly. The overcast skies made for great walking weather actually as it’s less bright and I like the smell of the ground after it has rained. But I did got caught in the rain twice this week, which was less nice.

We finished watching the second season of Star Trek Discover, while it’s not as good as season 1, it was still pretty enjoyable and it all just looks fantastic. I also made some progress with my current audiobook and finished two books and a novella this week.

It also was a good week for work. I sent out the media kit for a tour that starts next week. And I sent out a newsletter to my author mailing list, which I hadn’t done in a long time, but I suddenly had a bout of inspiration and wrote a whole newsletter and sent it out the same day. I was so happy to got that done and contact my author list again. I did a bunch of hours of assistant work as well as usual.

I posted on my Lola’s Blog Tours Instagram account for the first time this week. I have had an account for a while, but hadn’t figured out how to post from my computer. Then I remembered a blog post I saw and had saved a while back on Dark Thoughts and figured I would give it a try and see if I could post from my computer. The technique she outlined worked and now I can finally post on my Lola’s Blog Tours Instagram account.

Let’s take a look at what I read last month. In April I read 8 books. Only one of these got a 3 star and the rest all were 4 star reads, so it was a good reading month even tough I didn’t read as much as previous months. 7 of these were full length books and only one was a novella. One audiobook (which also was a re-read) and 7 ebooks. I read a nice variety of genres: 2 urban fantasy, 2 fantasy romance, 2 cozy mystery, 1 science fiction romance and 1 paranormal romantic suspense. So mostly fantasy and mystery books this month, which seems to fit what I am in the mood for currently. Only one young adult book this month, the others were all adult books. 5 of the books I read were books I got for review, 1 I got through a subscription service (the audiobook) and 2 books I bought.

What did I read this week?

Doom and BloomSkip TraceBearadise Lodge

Doom and Bloom was a great read and I am really enjoying this series so far. Skip Trace also was a great book in a series I am enjoying, although due to my current mood I didn’t enjoy it as much as the previous books. Bearadise Lodge was a fun short read that’s part of the Fractured Stars series.

What did I cook for dinner this week?

This week I blogged about:

Review: Twelve Slays of Christmas by Jacqueline Frost – Audiobook
Review: Fractured Stars by Lindsay Buroker

What to expect next week on the blog:

– Review: Kitty Confidential by Molly Fitz

The Rogue PrinceMindfulness and Meditation

I bought the Rogue Prince as I thought I would like to start another one of this author’s series soon. I already have the first 3 books in her other series and I liked the sound of this one, so I bought book 1. Mindfulness and Meditation I got through Netgalley, I’ve been doing some meditation for a while now and thought it would be be interesting to read a book on the topic and learn about some more techniques.

What’s one of your favorite ways to relax?

    • I really like that fresh smell after rain. Mindfulness and Meditation was only added to Netgalley earlier this week, so it’s probably still there if you want to get a copy through there. I am trying to keep up with meditation as part of my daily routine and I would like to read a bit more about it.

  1. We’ve had a bunch of rain so I’ve had less walking than usual, but you’re right about how nice it is to get out for a walk.
Way to go on firing off a newsletter and getting some author work done.
You did get to a nice variety both of genres and the source with reviews/bought books.
I do like to meditate, but I usually manage about once a month though I started staying off social media one day a week a couple years ago and that is good for my stress relief and mental well being, too.

    Have a good week, Lola

    • It’s less fun to walk when it’s raining. I hope the weather where you live gets better soon.

I was happy to get the newsletter done :).

It’s fun to look back each month at what I read, I thought I would try this shorter format to look back at last month’s reads.

I try and meditate daily nowadays, even if it’s only for a few minute,s I figured making it a habit would help. That’s a good idea re staying off social media one day per week.

  2. I love the way it smells after it rains. So fresh, clean and earthy. I find it smells nice when we are by the shore house too. I would guess because of the salt air.

Glad things are going good for you even if it is slow progress. I am also moving at a snails pace with things but I am getting better at what I see for the future and LD. I also send you an email back 🙂

Instagram seems to be the place to be now especially for a business, I am going to start using my account for more stuff for Limabean Designs and also make it’s own account with art stuff I do. (thats one of the things I am working on)

Have a great week, Lola! Happy Reading! xx

    • It’s a nice smell how it smells after it rains.

I feel like the progress is very slow, but at least I am making progress. So I try to focus on that. Glad to hear you’re also doing better even if it goes slow. And I am excited to see what you have planned for LD.

I didn’t realize Instagram was so important to be, but I am glad I can finally post there. My posts so far have gotten a bunch of likes, so at least it feels like they’re being seen, which is not always the case with other social media. Let me know once your Limabeans designs account is up so I can follow you and tag you sometimes :). The art stuff sounds interesting!

  3. I’m so glad that the blog post I did helped you be able to use Instagram from your desktop. I’ve been doing it too. I’m so glad I finally figured that out and was able to post about it. I hope you’ll be out of the funk you’ve been feeling soon. I love overcast days. Right now it’s just too sunny, too hot for me.

    • I am so glad you did that post! I am really happy I remember your post (I bookmarked it) and finally gave it a try. It’s great to be finally able to post on Instagram :). I liked the overcast days, especially when it’s dry, but overcast. It great weather for walking. Sorry to hear it’s too sunny where you live.

  4. I’m so glad that getting out and walking has been good for your mood. At least one of us is out there walking! Lol. And it’s also good to hear that the business side of things is going well, too. That makes me very happy to hear!

      • I sometimes think of you now that I am out there walking every day often in the park close by. I hope you can get back to walking soon. I am glad I picked up the habit and I hope I can keep doing these daily walks as I think the sunlight, being outside and moving really helps me feel better.

  5. It sounds like a great week. It’s getting hot enough now that cloudy even with rain sounds good. You really read a nice mix of genres. We have been on a food jag. It’s fish (salmon, cod, tuna, haddock) with greens (spinach, green beans, broccoli, asparagus) pretty much every night. It’s easy to plan at least and we will eat it until we are tired of it, which could be a long time. Have a great week!

    • We’ve had some warmer weeks, but mostly it’s been colder than usual for this time of the year and more rain. But as long as it doesn’t rain too hard I don’t mind too much.

That food jag sounds nice. I don’t eat fish, but combining it with veggies like that sounds pretty versatile, there are lots of different combinations you can make.
