sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

This was a pretty standard week. Not much noteworthy. It was the last day of the month so I finished up this month’s assistant work work for my authors. I also put a new sign-up post live and am working on two more that hopefully will go live next week. I had a bad headache one day and didn’t get as much done that day as I had hoped which was annoying.

I also managed to throw tea over part of my desk (which happened on the day I had the headache), luckily I mostly managed to only hit some non-electronics, except for one of my speakers that got hit with the tea. It’s sitting in a pot of rice right now, hopefully they survive, else I have to buy new ones. But I really like these so I hope they’ll be okay once they’re dry.

And I managed to read all the review copies I had for September in time for their release date and also already finished a few of my October ARCs, which is great. We finished season 1 of Killjoys and so far it’s pretty good, the plotting is really well done and there are some great characters and side characters. It can get a tad gory or gruesome at times tough. I also tried a new green curry recipe this week, which turned out pretty well.

Today is the last day to enter my 5 year anniversary giveaway.

September was a great reading month. I think this is the most books I read in a month for a long time. I not only got a lot read, but also a wide variety of genres, lots of 4 stars and even a rare 5 star. Lost of review copies I read this month, which makes sense as my schedule was full of release dates this month.

What did I read this week?

The Dough Must Go OnThe Raging OnesPossessed by the Vampire

I also finished Cats of War by Carol van Natta, it was a greta short story and I cna’t wait to get my hands on the whole pets in Space 3 anthology. The Dough Must Go On was another solid read in this series with an interesting mystery, that while difficult to guess had some great twists. The Raging Ones was a bit of a mixed one for me, it was a bit slow and some plot points and world building things I didn’t care for. But I did like the characters, the empathic bond and the romance. Possessed by the Vampire was a good ending to the series, some danger and a satisfying wrap up for this series.

What did I cook for dinner this week?

This week I blogged about:

Review: Pirate Consort by Carysa Locke
Review: Trial of Three by Alex Lidell

Book Haul:

Take Me HomeInouyeRise of the WitchA Midwinter's Tail

Take me Home, Inouye and Rise of the Witch I bought. A Midwinter’s Tail I got for review. Take me Home is another series by an author whose paranormal suspense series I really enjoyed and as it was now discounted to 99 cents I decided to buy a copy of this one. Inouye sounded good and I liked the animal on the cover. Rise of the Witch I read a great review for and bought a copy. A Midwinter’s Tail is the next book in this awesome cozy mystery series and I got a copy through Netgalley.

How many books did you read in September? What was your favorite read of the month?

  1. Always fun to see your monthly finished reads together and get the stats. You do such a great job reading a variety and that was fabulous that you got all your September and some October releases read. I love seeing the reminder that you had a five-star.

Crossing my fingers that your speaker works when its dry.

Inouye looks interesting. I’ll have to look it up.

Great job hitting your top month for books finished and wishing you a great October of work, fun, and good reads. πŸ™‚

    • I like looking back at the month and seeing what I read. I am happy I got to all of my September releases as I was afraid for a bit I wouldn’t get to all of them, but I managed. And even had a 5 star read. It was a good reading month.

I hope my speaker will work. I think I am testing it tomorrow.

I think the author of Inouye is in Pets in Space 3 as well :).

  2. You did good this month with reading. I am still going very slowly, might have to change my Goodreads goal again.
I owe you a banner and will have it for you today! πŸ™‚

I hope you speaker works, I can’t tell you how often I lose stuff because I spilled something. Need to use closed cups from now on! lol

I hope you have a fantastic week, Lola! Happy Reading! ox

    • It really was a great reading month and I managed to make some extra time here and there which helped get more read. I think I am almost at my Goodreads goal for this year.

I’ll have another banner request for you soon, just waiting to hear about the tour dates.

Closed cups is a good idea, lol. I rarely spill thing,s but my mind was off with the headache and I didn’t pay enough attention and it went over my desk :(. I hope ym speakers survive.

  3. I only read 8 books in September. Most of them were from NetGalley and the reviews are coming up soon but I already have them ready to go. I hope you keep liking Killjoys. I am still watching new episodes and think it got even better.

    • 8 books is still a good amount for a month. I mostly read review copies as well this month. It’s nice to have some reviews ready to go. I am still enjoying Killjoys so far πŸ™‚

  4. Congrats …on reading and reviewing all your ARCs on time not on spilling tea on your desk LOL That’s something that could perfectly happen to me! Have a wonderful week Lola <3

  5. Sorry about the speakers, hopefully they’ll be ok. I’ve found most electronics can handle a bit of liquid and dry out alright. Glad you’re getting through your ARCs pretty well! It sound like you had somewhat similar thoughts as me about The Raging Ones, I’m looking forward to hearing more in your review πŸ™‚

    • The speakers didn’t get too wet, but a bit landed on where the cables connected, so I want to make sure it’s fully dry before I try turning them on again. I really hope they survive.

I am glad I got through my ARC’s so well. I mostly read ARCs this month, but as they were all books I was excited for it actually turned out well. I re-read your review after I finished The Raging Ones and I our thoughts were somewhat similar indeed, I also struggled with some of the things you mentioned. I also could read the spoiler now and agreed with that part as well, even tough I didn’t mention it in my review.

  6. Hope the speakers are okay! I spilled a drink on my work keyboard once- THAT was embarassing! And ooh three Mages and a Margarita- I bought that one last week, it was on sale for $2.99. It looks super fun!

    Have a nice week Lola!

    • The speakers survived luckily. Did your work keyboard survive?

I hope you’ll enjoy Three Mages and a Margarita. I thought it was a good book.

  7. Sorry about another headache. I wish you could find some relief from them. No fun! Congrats on reading so many books in September. I don’t keep track except on GoodReads so not sure how many I read.
Hope you have a good pain free week!

    • I really hate headaches, luckily some weeks are great and I don’t have one.

I started keeping track of what i read in a spreadsheet since two years ago as i like being able to look back and see what I read and track more things than what Goodreads has.

    • The speakers still work luckily. I usually don’t spill stuff on my desk, so I was really annoyed it happened now, but luckily everything survived.

  8. I need to get back to the HY Hanna series. There are several books in that series that I haven’t read yet! I’m sorry to hear about your speakers. What a pain! I hate when I spill stuff. I hope the speakers are fine.

    • The Hy Hanna series is so fun :). I tested my speakers and they seem to be working fine luckily, but I was so annoyed I spilled stuff on them in the first place.
