sunday post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

What happened this week?

Happy new year everyone! I hope this week was a good start of 2018 for you. For me this week was a bit meh actually. Not sure why but I just felt a bit off. It was a bit harder to focus on work, although I still got a lot done. The construction work in another apartment in the building we live in continued this week. And some days I hardly noticed, but other days our house smelled like smoke and I got annoyed due to the construction noise.

Work wise I did do pretty well, I got a nice start on the assistant work this month and I put a cover reveal sign-up post live and I’ve been working on another media kit for a tour that will go live next week. End last year I had decided that at the start of 2018 I would change my cover reveals from free to paid and I hope that will turn out to be a good decision. While I loved being able to offer the cover reveals for free, they did cost a lot of time to organize and it does add up.

I spend some of the money I got for Christmas and got a bunch of new books. I’ve also been playing a cooking game every day for a little bit. It also was a great reading week with three really good 4 star books that I read. I also got some blogging done and finished the stats of 2017 post that went live last Friday.

I wanted to let you know about an awesome Us only giveaway author SJ Pajonas is hosting. One winner will win paperback copies of both Face Time and Summer Haikus! Both books are awesome books and got 5 star ratings from me and I just wanted to share this giveaway with you. If you love contemporary romances featuring diverse and realistic characters, make sure to enter Pajonas’ giveaway here.

What did I read this week?

Biscuits and Slashed BrownsThe Daydreamer Detective Returns a FavorTouch of Rain

3 solid 4 star reads this week. Biscuits and Slashed Browns was a good cozy mystery, the mystery didn’t grab me as much as the previous books, but I really liked the rest of the book. The daydreamer Detective Returns a Favor had a great mystery that took me by surprise. Touch of Rain was an awesome paranormal suspense book with some great twists and a kind and quirky main character.

What did I cook for dinner this week?

Book Haul:

Sirens & ScalesOn the HuntSummer UnpluggedDefy the StarsFrom the StarsChaos StationWriggle & SparkleThe High King's Golden TongueGemini Keeps Capricorn

I want on a purchase spree this week. I got some money for Christmas and decided to spend some of it :). Sirens & Scales was a 99c box set and the whole sirens and dragons theme caught my attention. On the Hunt is the sequel to a book read this week and it was so good I bought the sequel before I finish the book. Summer Unplugged is a box set of the whole series for only 99cents. Defy the Stars got recommended to me by SJ Pajonas, she said it was a great YA sci-fi so I decide to give it a try. From the Stars was only 99cents and sounded great. I asked for some MM romance recommendations in my 2018 goal post this week and Kristen from Moonlight and Metaphors was so kind to recommend me a few MM books she thought I would like, so I bought Chaos Station, Wriggle & Sparkle and The High King’s Golden Tongue on her recommendation. One if a sci-fi book, the other a paranormal romance and the other high fantasy I think. I hope I’ll enjoy them all! Gemini Keeps Capricorn I won in a giveaway, yay! I loved book 1 and I am happy to have both book 2 and 3 now :).

  1. Happy New Year! But ugh, smoke smell in addition to the noise now? That’s awful! Glad you had some great books though! We’ve had similar reading weeks! I actually gave one book 4.5 stars and am considering 4.5 for another. Our reading years are off to good starts, this is good πŸ™‚ I also spent some Xmas money on a few books. There were a lot of ebook sales on Amazon, it seemed, so I couldn’t pass up some of the books I’ve been wanting. Also, congrats on winning a giveaway! And I really hope you like those three books! Esp since you’re reading them on my rec, haha. Have a great week!

    • I am not sure whether the people working there are smoking or maybe the house smells so badly, but they have the door open a bit and all the smell goes into the rest of the building. We permanently have a towel stuck to the door to prevent as much smell from coming inside, but still most of the hallway smells like smoke. I hope they are done with the renovating work soon.

If I gave out 4.5 stars both The daydreamer Detective book and Touching Rain would’ve received it, they were so good! Glad to hear your reading year is off to a good start too! And yay for getting some ebooks you wanted while they were on sale.

I started Wriggle & Sparkle yesterday, so far I am enjoying it :). I also really hope I’ll enjoy all three of the books.

    • The construction noise is already going on for a few weeks, but some days are worse than others. I hope you’ll enjoy The Daydreamer Detective Returns a Favor! I thought the mystery was really well done in this book :).

  2. I have several tokens saved up, but I want to sit down and work out exactly what I want to read before plunging in and spending them:). So sorry to hear of the smoke – urgh! I find that working at home is great – until it isn’t. When things stack up, you have nowhere to go to take a break and get a bit of perspective, so it really MATTERS. So I hope the construction is over quickly! Have a better week, Lola.

    • It can be hard to decide sometimes what to buy. I love working from home, but the construction noise really puts a damper on my mood. I hope they’re done with the noise soon. At least they didn’t start too early with the noise this week, which was nice.

    • I hope they’re done soon, after these past few weeks I would like some more quiet. It was fun to splurge on books a bit this week.

  3. Happy New Year! Sorry to hear about the smoke and construction noise though! Ugh. Yay for new books though! πŸ™‚

From the Stars looks like a good one. Biscuits and Slashed Browns does too. And that Daydreamer detective cover is awesome.

    Have a great week Lola!

    • I hope they’re finish soon with the construction. It was fun to buy so many new books.

I liked the premise of From the Stars, it sounds really good. And those two cozy series are really good!

    • The construction noise can be really annoying and it’s been going on for weeks now. I am happy with all the new books I got this week, I hope they’re good ones :).

  4. I’m sorry you had a meh week, but I can imagine having construction going on in your building with noise and smoke could really mess up your flow… especially since you work from home. Sounds like you did pretty well, despite feeling off and the noise/smoke. I hope you enjoy your new reads and this week goes better for you πŸ™‚

  5. Hopefully the construction work will end soon for you. So hard, I know.

Yay for some good work accomplished even if you were feeling bleh. Oh, very nice reading week. My friend is playing a cooking game she is trying to hook me on- wonder if its the same, but I can’t remember the name of it.
Nice haul! I read the Megan Derr book a while ago and remember liking it. Chaos Station looks good. All your boxed sets will keep you busy and were a great way to stretch out your gift money.

    Have a good week!

    • I hope they will be done soon, this week we still had some construction noise.

I am glad I still got some work done even with me feeling a bit bleh. It was a good reading week. The cooking game I am playing is Cook Serve Delicious 2. There are a bunch of cooking games out there, but it would be a fun coincidence if it was the same.

Oh i didn’t realize you had read one of her books as well! Did you mean Wriggle & Sparkle or The High King’s Golden Tongue? I am really curious about Chaos Station too and the box sets are always nice catches, especially for that price.

    • It sounds like a good one. I’ve been wanting to buy a copy for a while now, so I am glad I finally bought it. I am looking forward to reading it!

  6. I’m back!!

I’ll have to catch up pretty fast, seems like I’ve missed a whole lot, being away for about a month and all…

I know how you feel about the neighbours doing works, me and my best friend had the same problem with the people who moved in below us. At least they apologised in advance for the annoyance they were going to cause. πŸ™‚

Wow, I actually realised I haven’t done any reading during my break. I only had a couple of weeks off from work, so I just relaxed before going on holiday, and I used my time off to do a lot of writing for the blog. As of now, I have the whole of January and February scheduled. Gotta get back to reading or I won’t have any reviews to post!

    • Yay! Glad to hear you’re back!

Most new neighbors who move in here apologize, but this is through the company who owns the apartment I think. They are renovating or something. They did post a notice that said it would take 6 week.s I think those 6 weeks are almost over now luckily.

That’s nice you had some time off from works to relax, although that’s to bad you didn’t read anything. Neat you got a lot of writing for your blog done and have two whole months scheduled!

  7. RO

That cooking game sounds neat Lola! I’m thrilled that the Admin work picked up right away this year, and I think it’s good that you’re going to charge for the Cover reveals. You should paid for all your hard work. Yay on getting some books that you just want to read for fun! Hugs…RO

    • Nice you also got From the Stars :). It sounds like a good sci-fi read. I am really curious about Chaos Station, I had my eye on it for a while, so I am glad I finally bought it.

The construction noise is still going on, but I hope they will be done soon.
