Rera’s secrets are piling up and it’s only a matter of time before they start coming out.

After her thieving crew’s attempted theft led to them all being arrested, Rera’s wits are put to the test – after all, she’s the one who betrayed them. But she’s got a job to do, and she’s going to do it, no matter what anyone thinks.

And when the secrets mount up, she turns to the only person she thinks she can trust, but what is Ben doing undercover in the thieves’ crew, and is he really on her side?

There’s Justice In Secrets is book two in Scales Of Justice, an urban fantasy series based on Egyptian mythology and set in the same world as The Apprentice Of Anubis.

If you love Egyptian mythology, alternative versions of the modern day, temple politics, slow-burn workplace romance, and a world where the gods are real, then the Scales Of Justice series is for you!

My Review

I received a free copy from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

There’s Justice in Secrets is the second book in this series and I started it right after finishing book 1. It starts off right after the end of book 1, so I was easy to continue the story like that.

Rera is undercover as a thief for the temple of Ma’at were she is now an apprentice and this book progresses a lot of that. Rera is struggling with the lying and wants to protect her thief friends who didn’t have much choice in becoming thieves, while also getting closer to Rhimes the one who is the big leader of the group they rarely interact with. Rera also is growing closer to Ben, which I liked reading about.

I like the world this author has created with how the Egyptian Empire never fell and it’s interesting reading about this world. I like Rera as a main character, she never wanted a thief and now she has the chance to do something else, except for now she still has to pretend to be a thief and steal things. I like seeing her interact with Ben and how the two of them help each other each, Ben helps her with the temple stuff while she explains a lot of the thieving stuff to him. They both still keeps secrets from the other and I am excited to find out why Ben is undercover. I like reading about them together and look forward to seeing their romance progress. There’s an interesting twist toward the end and I look forward to the next book and see how the story continues.

To summarize: I enjoyed this sequel and started it right after finishing book 1. This seamlessly continues the story and I liked reading more about Rera and her difficult situation of being undercover as a thief while now being an apprentice for Ma’at. I liked seeing the plot progress with Rera trying to get closer to the boss of the thieves Rhimes and how the whole undercover thing works out. I also liked seeing Rera and Ben grow closer and how they help each other. I look forward to reading more about them in future books. The world is very interesting with how the Egyptian Empire never feel and how the society works now. I look forward to the next book!
