Note: THIS SERIES MUST BE READ IN ORDER. It is a true series and plot elements carry through every book, from beginning to end. You will miss too much by reading this series out of order or skipping around. This series contains a slow-burn romance, profanity, and sexual situations.

My Review

Wow what a read! This is the fourth book in the Hikoboshi series and it’s an amazing read. End last year I did a re-read of the first 3 books, so all the events were fresh in my head before this one released. The Rise of Shiroi Nami starts off shortly after the end of book 3. This book was awesome, there is so much going on and happening some twists and turns and different directions. It was awesome seeing it all unfold.

One of my favorite things about this book was how fast paced it felt and how Yumi really felt pro-active in this book. This feels like a slight change from previous books in the series, but I thought it really worked well here. There is a lot that happens in this book and some really big changes and things that occur. And Yumi is stepping up and making plans and making sure they can help the citizens of Hikari and then pulling off those plans as well as she can. All the while still struggling with her declining health. I like how realistic this book feels in many aspects, with how Yumi struggles with her health and also how things progress feels realistic.

As the title suggest we see more of Shiroi Nami in this book. It was interesting to learn more about this cooperation and see Yumi ally herself with them. She keeps her allies close and her actions swift in this book. Sadly her enemies won’t sit back and let all this happen and they’re upping the stakes too and hitting back hard. This book goes from triumphs to setbacks and it was quite the read because of this. It kept me wanting to read more, eager to see how things would play out. I even managed to predict a few of the plot points.

I liked seeing Yumi and Rin stay together for most of this book and fighting side by side to make life better for all of Hikari. Instead of focusing on going back home, Yumi is committed to fighting for Hikari and showing them there is another way forward. It was exciting to see it all unfold. I really like Yumi and Rin together and I like how Yumi keeps believing in their love in this book even if some people question Rin’s loyalty and Rin is amazing too being at her side and fighting for them.

There are some new side characters as well, as well as plenty of recurring ones and it’s great to see more of these characters. There isn’t as much of Ninjin, Yumi’s dog, in this book sadly, but that makes sense given the circumstances. I liked the developments with the androids and how Yumi even has an android friend in this book.

And then there is that ending. Book 5 can’t get here fast enough as I have to know what happens next. The author could’ve ended this one on a massive cliffhanger and while I am happy she didn’t, we only see a bit past that point now and there is so much uncertain and I want to know so badly how this will be resolved.

To summarize: This was an awesome read. It’s fast paced with lots of things happening and plenty of action. I like how pro-active Yumi is in this book, she’s really fighting for what she believes in. She makes plans and executes them and she has her allies close by at her sides to help her along. It was really powerful to see her fight for the future of this world. This book is awesome. There are plot twists and big reveals and I loved seeing the direction the story took. It was great to see more of the characters. Yumi and Rin made for an awesome couple and I loved seeing them fight together side by side in this book. There is a big twist toward the end and I can’t wait to see how things unfold in book 5. Book 5 can’t get here soon enough! If you like exciting scifi romance series, give this series a try, it’s amazing!

  1. Now, that speaks for what a fab book it is that you enjoyed a quick re-read to get reacquainted with all the details and then slapped a five-star on it. Love when a book just flies for me and looks like she’s a fab heroine who takes the right actions.

    • I am really glad I did a re-read of the first three books so all the details were fresh in my head for this one. This really was an awesome read and it really flew by and I really liked how the main character handled things in this book.
