The RescuerThe Rescuer (Barrett Boys #4)
by Jordan Ford

My Rating: 4 stars

Genre: Contemporary Romance/ Romantic Suspense
Age Category: Young Adult
Type of romance: MF

Blurb:
He agreed to a trip into the wilderness for a chance to win her heart. What he didn’t count on was a chilling murder and a race for their lives.

Jake:
Carmen is the woman for me. I’ve known it for months now.
There’s only one major problem… she’s with another guy.
But he’s so wrong for her, and this trip is going to be my chance to show her that.
She invited me, that has to mean something.

All I need to do now is get her alone for a few minutes so I can tell her how I really feel.
But then a living nightmare happens—we witness a murder.
And now we’re on the run for our lives.
Carmen and I are finally alone, just the way I was hoping… but not like this.

There’s no time to tell her how I feel when all that matters is keeping her alive.
I’ll do whatever it takes to make sure she gets out of this.
My grandpa told me that there’s no greater love than to give your life to rescue someone else. I’d give my life for Carmen. All I can hope is that I won’t have to…that I’ll be smart enough, brave enough, to get us both out of this vast forest before the killers can eliminate all evidence of their crime.

The Rescuer is the fourth standalone book in a thrilling YA romance series. If you like intelligent sweet guys, nail-biting action and a romance that defies the odds, then you’ll love Jordan Ford’s riveting novel.

My Review

I received a free copy of this book from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

The Rescuer is the fourth book in this series and I was looking forward to getting the story of another Barrett boy. At the end of book 3 we get a hint of what’s going on with Jake and it made me excited for his story. There’s plenty of suspense and romance in this one and I liked seeing how it all played out.

Jake has been crushing on Carmen for a while now, he knows she’s the girl for him, but Carmen is in a relationship with someone else. She knows Hector isn’t the one for her, but can’t bring herself to break up with him. I liked how they both had to grow and change throughout the course of this series and it was great to see them learn new things and grow closer together as well.

This book started off a bit slow for me with the set up and some parts we knew already because of Brody’s point of view in book 3, but once they go on a trip to the wilderness it really starts getting great. I liked the description of the beautiful forest they visit. Then they witness a murder and have to go on the run. This one had quite some suspense with them being lost in the woods with killers on their tail. I liked seeing how they handled it. Although I would’ve liked if they saved themselves and see how they figured that out, instead help comes from the outside.

I liked seeing Jake and Carmen together. I wasn’t a fan of the situation Carmen was in with her already having a boyfriend, but I did feel that it made sense and that the whole situation progressed in a realistic way. I also like how Carmen didn’t make a move towards Jake until her relationship was going downhill and how Jake also respected that she was with someone else. Once they finally have the chance to spend more time with just the two of them it’s clear to see how good they are together. I liked seeing how they’re there for the other and help each other out. They really made for a great couple.

The part at the end was also great to see and to see the characters from previous books a bit as well. Brody and Indigo are the ones we see the most of, which makes sense with how close Jake and Brody are. Then at the end there’s the set-up for Cooper’s book. I am looking forward to that one!

To summarize: This was another great read in this series. I was looking forward to Jake’s story and I enjoyed this one. I wasn’t a fan of the set-up with Carmen already being in a relationship, but I did think it made sense and was handled realistically. I liked seeing Carmen and Jake grow closer in this book. They really make for a great couple and I liked seeing how they’re there for the other and help eahc other out. There also is plenty of suspense as they witness a murder and now the killers are after them to make sure no witnesses escape. The end of the book sets the stage for the next book and I look forward to that one.

    • The suspense in this one was great. It did make sense why she stayed in the relationship, but I am still not a fan of plot lines like that.
