My Rating: 4 stars

Genre: Paranormal Historical Romance

Type of romance: MF

Blurb:
Georgiana believed she’d marry Henry since the day she understood what it meant. But when he goes away to war, she watched that dream slip away.

After two years away, Henry returns to find Georgiana engaged, and that winning her back might not be as easy as he first thought.

Can the two otter shifters find a way back to one another?

The Otter and the Officer is a paranormal Regency romance with otter shifters. It is part of the Shifter Season series. It has a second chance m/f romance and is Georgiana and Henry’s complete story.

My Review

I received a free ecopy from the author through Booksprout and voluntarily reviewed it.

The Otter and the Officer is the fifth book in the Shifter Season series and the third book I’ve read in this series. I was a bit hesitant when I picked up one of the books in the series about whether I would enjoy them, but I am really happy I gave this series a chance. This book was really good and I feel that now I am more familiar with the world Laura Greenwood has created in this series it’s easy to get into these books.

The Otter and the Officer is Georgiana and Henry’s story. They’ve loved each other for a long time now and the prologue shows them together before Henry leaves to join the war. They promise to write each other, but their letters never arrive to the other, so they both believe the other didn’t write. When Henry finally returns to England, Georgiana is betrothed to his best friend as their parents arranged the marriage and they don’t know how to get out of it.

I really liked this story, from the first page Georgina and Henry’s love for each other was so clear and I could really feel their love and connection to each other. I really fell for them how they had to be apart and then the situation when Henry finally returns. They have some hurt feelings to overcome as they both believe the other didn’t write, but I liked how that didn’t drag on long and got resolved when they talk with one another. I liked reading about the two of them and how they’re trying to find a way to make sure Georgina can marry Henry instead of her current fiancé.

I thought it was interesting that while Georgina is betrothed, she and her betrothed Frederick both don’t want the marriage, but don’t know how to get out of it. They are good friends too and I liked Frederick and his interactions with both Georgina and Henry. I am excited that he will get his own romance too. There are plenty of interesting side characters and I especially liked seeing more of Letty, I really admired her and how she’s there for Georgina and helps her out. I also am getting more curious about book 3 as that couple made an appearance in all the books I read so far and I hope to pick that one up soon.

I really liked seeing how this book played out. I kept hoping for Georgina and Henry and wanted to see them together, but due to the difficult situation they finds themselves in I wasn’t sure how they would manage. It was exciting seeing it all play out and the resolution felt realistic and well done. I liked the epilogue and I thought these two made for such a great couple!

The paranormal aspect in the form of shifters really adds an unique touch to this series. In this book both the main characters are otters and I liked how that played an important role in how they managed to meet up during the otter swims. I also liked the mention of the pebbles they carry with them.

To summarize: I really enjoyed this story. Georgina and Henry’s love for each other is clear from the very first page. There was something very romantic about their story and how their love survives even after years of being apart. They find themselves in a difficult situation with Georgina betrothed to Frederick instead which was arranged by their parents. This story kept my attention from start to finish and I was curious to see how they would resolve the situation without damaging their reputations too much. I liked seeing more of Letty from book 4 and she’s such a great friend to Georgina. I also liked Frederick and his interactions with both Georgina and Henry and I look forward to his romance in book 7. The two main character here are otters and I really liked seeing how that was worked into the story, with the swims and the pebbles. I really enjoyed this one and look forward to future books in this series!

    • I liked how the hurt got resolved quickly and made sense. The otter shifters were really fun to read about. I really liked this one. I hope soon to go back and read the two books I missed in this series so far.
