A hedgehog shifter accepts an unexpected proposal.

Miss Agatha Spineforth has been considered a spinster for years, with no prospects of marriage and even her mother has all but given up. Until the offer of marriage arrives from an unexpected place.

Desperate to change her fortune, Agatha accepts, even if it isn’t because of any foolish notions of love. Only once she’s in her new husband’s home does she realise that there might be more to their new relationship than she first thought.

The Hedgehog and the Spinster is a paranormal Regency romance with hedgehog shifters. It is part of the Shifter Season series and includes a sweet m/f romance.

If you love shifters combined with courtship, formal balls, witty exchanges, and all the trappings of a Regency setting, you should start The Shifter Season today!

My Review

I received a free copy from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

This is the last book in The Shifter Season series. I really enjoyed this series and was sad to see it end. This is a sweet romantic read to finish up the series with mentions of most couples from previous books in the series.

I read this during a stressful time and I think due to that I wasn’t fully able to get into this one. Which was a shame. I also didn’t remember all the names from previous characters, so I constantly felt like I was trying very hard to remember who they were referring to. I did think the mentions of previous characters was nice and to get some updates on how they were doing, I just wish it would’ve have taken me so much effort to remember who everyone was.

The romance was a sweet one. It starts out as a marriage of convenience and then they realize they have feelings for each other. I just would’ve liked a bit more? I don’t know exactly what, but I liked the set-up and how they ended, I just wanted a bit more of their romance developing I think. I really liked how kind Elias was and how he wanted to make sure Agatha was respected and could have a happy life with him. And the scene toward the end with her parents was pretty neat, I liked seeing him speak his mind and standing up for Agatha.

I liked the scene were they are in their hedgehog forms with the acorn hunt. It was a fun addition to the book and I often like those type of scenes in this series.

To summarize: I really enjoyed this series and was sad to see it end. This was a sweet romance to finish up the series and I liked Agatha and Elias their story, I just would’ve liked a bit more of their romance developing from marriage of convenience to love. I liked how kind Elias was to Agatha and the way he stood up for her and cared about making her happy was awesome. And the hedgehog scene was a fun one with the acorn hunt. I liked how there are mentions of most previous characters in the series, but I had trouble remembering who was who, so that took more effort than I would’ve liked.

  1. Sounds like it was trying to do a lot tying all the books together and introducing this latest couple. I love the idea of shifters in historical eras so I’ll definitely have to give these a go.

    • I definitely felt like this book was trying a lot. I hope you give this series a try, I really liked the shifters combined with historical romance.

    • I think it’s so fun with how they shift into pretty common animals instead of the typical sexy sounding shifter types. I would totally read a book about a sloth shifter!
