by Laura Greenwood and Arizona Tape

My Rating: 4 stars

Genre: Post-Apocalyptic Paranormal Romance
Age Category: New Adult
Type of romance: MF

Blurb:
When Zoe agrees to meet her sister at a tea witch retreat, she knows it’s going to be a hard journey, even with the support of her best friend. But things look to change when an old classmate asks to travel with them.

Kestrel shifter Aaron has been travelling between oases alone for years, and now he’s found a chance to change that, he doesn’t plan on letting it slip away from him, especially when he realises there’s something about Zoe that intrigues him.

Is the bond between them solely because of their journey, or is it something real?

Shifter’s Heart is book two of the Purple Oasis series. It is a standalone m/f paranormal romance set in a post-apocalyptic world that’s starting to rebuild.

My Review

Shifter’s Heart is the second book in the Purple Oasis series. It’s set in a post-apocalyptic world with the focus on rebuilding and romances that happen in the community. Shifter’s Heart follows Zoe as she and her friend Stella prepare to leave the oasis when it’s slowly falling apart, when they’re leaving they meet shifter Aaron and ask him to join them. It’s told from Zoe and Aaron’s point of views.

I liked reading about Zoe and Aaron, they’re both likable characters and I liked their connection. It was fun to see them team up and travel together and the way they grow closer throughout the journey to Purple Oasis. I liked their romance and thought their first date was so sweet and fun to read. I liked how they both gather the courage to start dating. It’s clear the way living through the end of the world has changed them as well as their outlook on things like romance and hope and grabbing those chances when they present itself. I thought they made for a cute couple and liked reading about them.

There is a hint of who will feature in future stories, both Reese and Stella seeming likely to have their own stories. Both were fun side characters and I look forward to their books. And I also liked seeing more of Jasmine from book 1 and how she knows Zoe and Stella.

I liked seeing a bit more of the world in this book with the traveling and we see of two other oases, but the world building is still pretty limited. I still don’t know why the world ended or am exactly sure about the state of things. In this book we do learn a few new things like the fact they have electricity again, but not much and it was nice to see more of Purple Oasis now that they’re doing better after the events in book 1. As Aaron is a shifter we learn a bit more about that paranormal type as well and I was surprised as it seems they don’t actually shift, but instead have animal familiars.

To summarize: I enjoyed this second book in the series and following Zoe and Aaron as they leave their current oasis and try and find a new home in Purple Oasis. I liked reading about Zoe, Stella and Aaron traveling together and how we got to see a bit more of the world and learn about shifters too. I liked Zoe and Aaron’s romance and their first date was so sweet. I liked reading about them and I liked getting to know some side characters who will get their own romances and see Jasmine again too. The world building is still pretty limited, but I liked seeing a bit more of it and how Purple Oasis is doing now. I look forward to the next book!
