Second Chance with Bastet is a slightly reworked version of Bastet which I read early 2024. This time it’s brought into the Jinx series and instead of a cult related plot line there is now more focus on the romance and a slight journalist plot line added. I was excited to see what had changed and experience their romance again.
I enjoyed this version more than the first version of the story. I think the suspense cult plot line didn’t really work in the first version and I thought this version was even better with that gone and the characters address more why they broke up in the first time and what they plan to do differently this time. I wasn’t quite sure about the journalist plot line that got added now, it’s only a slight mention and didn’t add much here, but I think it will be more important in a later book.
I liked reading about Bastet and Ptah and seeing them reconnect and realize they still care a lot about the other. I liked their dates and seeing their romance deepen again. It was fun to see how well these two knew each other and also which things they didn’t know or what might’ve changed. Just like in the first version of the story I liked their first date as well as the shifting scenes. These two are great together and I really liked their second chance romance.
I also liked reading about Bastet’s cat sanctuary and seeing her connect with an old friend Menhit and get to visit her oasis. There are a few mentions of some other characters in the series, but it can easily be read as a standalone.
To summarize: This is a slightly reworked version of the story Bastet, I liked this version more and think it works better without the cult plot line and there’s more focus on the romance and them addressing what will be different this time. I had a great time reading this book and I liked Bastet and Ptah together and seeing them reconnect. Their first date and the shifting scene were particularly fun. I also liked seeing Bastet her cat sanctuary and seeing her connect with an old friend Menhit again.
That’s great that the rework on the book made it a better story to you and you could see a direct connection with later books when it came to the journalist part.

There are so many paranormal dating agencies in books these days. I like it for the most part, it makes for a fun story.
I agree it can make for a fun story. Here the dating agency is usually a small part of the books, but it’s fun how it comes back in every book.

I thought the rework really worked well here and made the story better. I don’t see this often where authors rework a story, but I think it can work well in cases like this.
