Rites and Knights is book three of the Amethyst’s Wand Shop Mysteries series. It is an urban fantasy mystery with an underlying slow burn romance.
My Review
For some reason I struggled a bit with this book. I didn’t make as much time to read it and only could read a chapter here and there, which made it hard to fully get into it. This book also switched up a bit how the mystery progressed. Instead of solving the mystery a lot is focused on proving Ambrose is innocent. At the end of the book I could see why the mystery progressed that way, but until then I wanted more investigating.
While it was interesting how this mystery was different from the first two books I kinda missed Ambrose and Amy working together as usual. We get some of that later in the book, but not at the start. The actual mystery when they finally focus on solving it was solved quite quickly, almost too quickly. I liked how everything made sense and got wrapped up at the end, but this mystery wasn’t as gripping as the previous ones for me.
As usual I had a lot of fun reading about Amy. She’s such a fun character. We see more of Stacey, one of Amy’s friends too. I liked seeing Amy and Ambrose grow closer in this book and there’s still plenty of good scenes with them together. We meet Amy’s sister Topaz, but I didn’t really care for her.
To summarize: This book didn’t grip me as much as the first two, that’s partly because of my reading mood and the way I only got to read a chapter or so every few days. The mystery had a different set up with Ambrose being the suspect and there isn’t as much focus on solving the mystery at first. Once they cleared Ambrose’s name and focus on solving the mystery it got resolved almost too quickly. I enjoyed reading more about Amy, she’s a fun character. I also liked seeing Amy and Ambrose grow closer.
Even if this one didn’t grip you as much, sounds like a pretty good series and Amy a good lead character.
