Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age Category: New Adult
Type of romance: MF

Blurb:
He was in love with his best friend’s girl…until a country angel walked into his life. Can two hearts from opposite sides of the country beat as one?

Ralphie:
I never had the guts to tell Nessa how much she meant to me, and now she’s with Jimmy. They’re good together. I shouldn’t be jealous. But man, the tour was hard work. Being around them all loved up that way… I don’t know how much more I can stand.
Until Veronica arrives on our doorstep.

Falling in love with Nessa’s sister is turning out to be way too easy.
She’s the sweetest person I’ve ever met.
Too bad Nessa doesn’t want her here.

Veronica:
My sister doesn’t want me in the Chaos mansion, but I came here on a mission, and I’m not leaving without her.
Except maybe I don’t want to leave at all.

Ralphie is kind to me. He’s easy to be around.
How am I supposed to return to simple country livin’ when my heart has come alive for the first time in my life?

My Review

I received a free copy from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

My Country Angel is a short novella length story set in the Lyrics of Love world. This story is about Ralphie, another band member of the band Chaos, and his love interest Veronica who is Nessa’s sister. This book is a lot shorter than the other books so far. It was a cute romantic read and I like that the other band members also get their happy ending now and it’s fun to see more of the band.

Ralphie is in love with Nessa, but she now has Jimmie. Ralphie gets a love interest of his own in Nessa’s sister Veronica in this book. It was fun to see more of the band and this time from two other point of views. It also nicely ties in with a plot line surrounding Nessa’s past, which was nice.

While I enjoyed this one I felt like it was a bit too short. I didn’t really feel and see how Ralphie used to be in love with Nessa and there isn’t really much of a change from that to his new love interest, which makes it hard to really feel how he loved Nessa and it doesn’t really impact the story. The romance develops quickly, but my main issue is that we don’t get to see any of the romantic getting to know each other scenes between them except for the first one, then we skip a few days later and they basically have fallen for one another. I would’ve liked to see that change and see them fall in love.

I liked both Ralphie and Veronica and while I would’ve liked to see more of their romance as I liked them together and they felt like a good match. Veronica was so sweet and innocent and Ralphie was so kind to her. I liked them together. There is a bit of a conflict about how they live on different sides of the country and I liked how it was resolved.

It was fun to see Veronica get to know her sister Nessa a bit, but I would’ve liked to see a bit more of it and seeing Veronica get to hear the whole story form Nessa about her mother. It was a bit weird to see their mother from another point of view, the women was downright cruel to Nessa and it was a bit much and then in this book she seems a lot more human and it suddenly becomes clear she does care. It was a bit hard to reconcile those two views of her.

To summarize: This was a sweet and romantic short novella. I liked seeing more of the band Chaos and this time seeing Ralphie get his happy ending. I liked Ralphie and Veronica together and thought they made for a good couple, but I would’ve liked to see a bit more of them falling in love. As this is a short read it skips a few days in which the two grow closer. I mostly just wanted a bit more story so I could get a better feel for both of them and see more of their romance. I did like them together and how the conflict was resolved and it’s great to see the other band members will find their happy endings too.

  1. Glad Ralphie got his owh chance at romance. Too bad that the romance itself and the relationship in the women’s family felt underdeveloped. Some novellas are like that.

    • It just felt a bit too short to full develop everything, but it still was a fun read and I liked seeing Ralphie get his own romance.
