Markets & Mooncakes is book four in the Falhaven Castle series, a cozy fantasy with a baking dragon, a princess who wants to be in the kitchen over the throne room, and the baker who wants to be there with her. There is a slow-burn friends-to-lovers romance, with a pinch of steam in later books, and an ace heroine.
My Review
I received a free copy from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.
I really like this series and was so excited to read this latest book. This series follows neurodivergent princess Evie who loves to bake and falls in love with her childhood friend Nate. There is a lot of them baking together as well as some political plot lines about Evie’s role in the kingdom and visiting delegations and such. In this book the new Shengda ambassador is visiting with his daughter and Princess Veronica and Evie are asked to show the daughter around. At the end of the previous book the queen said she would support Evie’s romance with Nate, so that is also progressing.
I really liked this book, all the plot lines were so fun. The characters are all likable and the whole plot line with the Shengda ambassador was interesting. I liked seeing the hints of Veronica’s romance with the ambassador’s daughter and I am excited there will be a book for Veronica and her romance. I liked seeing Evie being able to talk about baking and cooking with the ambassador’s daughter. And it was just fun seeing these characters get to know each other and interact. And Evie is such a great main character and I like reading about her.
I really love seeing Evie’s romance with Nate deepen and progress in eahc book. A lot of romance books stop once the couple gets together and I really like how in this series we get to see what happens after they get together and the way their relationship grows even deeper. They go on some fun outings in this one like visiting the market and there are plenty of baking scenes as well. I also like how their romance deepens even more as they connect and talk to each other. There is a bit of steam in this one, which was great seeing how they experienced that and how that deepened their connection as well and I liked how Nate handled Evie being ace and how that impacted the way they approached sex. I also like seeing them deal a bit more with what it means for Nate to eventually marry Evie and seeing them think and talk about this a bit.
To summarize: This was such a great read. I really liked the plot lines in this book. There is the new Shengda ambassador and Evie and Veronica showing the ambassador’s daughter around. And then there is Evie and Nate their romance deepening. It was fun to see Evie and Nate spend more time together, both baking and outside of the kitchen as they visit a market and more. I liked seeing their romance deepen even more and there is a bit of steam and them growing even closer as well as dealing with what it means for Nate to eventually marry Evie. This was such a great installment in this series and I can’t wait for more.

That really sounds good. The cover is so cute too.
