I really like this series and was so excited to read the next book in this series. In this book Rera goes back to her undercover thieving work, which brings up a lot of complicated emotions for her. She wants to help more of her friends escape that life and is working to do what she can to achieve that. There’s also a lot more going on with her like trying to work on getting along with her room-mate as well as banquet for the Pharaoh that she attends with Ben.
This was such a great read. I just really like reading about Rera and seeing her change throughout the series. Her character is so well written and the character development is so well done. I like seeing her deal with everything that happens and seeing her figure things out. She really is starting to grow into her role as a Ma’at priestess and deal with what the means to her and figure out what she wants to do. I really liked seeing that.
I also appreciated seeing her work more on her mental health in this book and the undercover situation is a lot better now that someone else oversees it all, which was great to see. And it was also great seeing Rera learn more about her Blessed sense and the nuances of it and how it works. I am curious how the situation with her room-mate and Blessed partner will play out after what happened in this book. I don’t like how Zet is treating Rera, especially now that he knows her secret about being Blessed, and I wonder how that will continue in future books.
I really like the romance in this one as well. Rera and Ben are just so great together and I like how there is no romance drama, just the two of them being there for each other and supporting the other and just being sweet together. There was an interesting scene with the two of them visiting Ben’s grandparents as well as some great scenes with Ben being there for Rera.
To summarize: I really like this series. The alternate world setting is interesting and I like the world building with the Egyptian elements, the gods and priestesses. I really like reading about Rera and seeing how she develops throughout the series and how she deals with everything. She’s such an interesting character and I like seeing her slowly figure out what who she wants to be now that she’s escaped from the thief live. There is some undercover work she’s doing in this book and I like how she’s trying to help her friends escape the thieving life as well. The romance between Rera and Ben is great, there is no drama, just the two of them being there for each other and their romance deepening. All in all I really like this series and look forward to the next book.
