Eli no longer believes in love, and Meg has no time for it. Can the spirit of Christmas and hope of a new year change their perspectives?
My Review:
In With the New was such a fun read. I was hooked from the first scene and I flew through this book. Once I started reading I didn’t want to stop as I enjoyed it so much. The novella wasn’t very long, but I felt like it was the exact right length for the story. In With the new focuses on Meg and Eli. It’s told from dual point of views. Meg is a new dog owner and is a product reviewer who has her own Youtube channel. Eli works as a dog trainer and has a dog as well. They meet in the dog park and get to know each other. I liked how we also got to see a bit of their daily lives and jobs.
I am always amazed at how realistic this author her books feel. These characters feel so realistic, that it would be easy to believe they are real people. There are scenes which are written so well and vividly and real. It’s hard to describe, but this author her writing style really works for me. And this novella was great. It was a short and fun read, that made me smile, exactly what I was in the mood for.
I liked reading about Meg and Eli, they were so different but I liked both of them and could relate to both a bit. I felt like we got a good idea of their personalities even in such a short read. I loved Eli his outlook on life. And Meg was such a friendly character who was always ready to help a friend out even in her already busy life. The two dogs also added something to the story, they both had a lot of personality and were fun to read about. There are also some side characters that play a role, like Gwen, Meg her best friend and both Meg and Eli their families, but the focus really is on the two main characters.
As it is a novella things do progress a bit fast and a few things got resolved a bit easily, but it never felt too fast and still felt believable. I thought there was enough time to get to know the characters and have their romance build up a bit. And it also manages to tackle some other topics as well, like the dogs, caring for animals, family issues, changing your life and even a bit of new years resolutions and Christmas thrown in.
To summarize: this was such a fun read and I really enjoyed reading it. I love how realistic these characters felt and I liked the addition of the two dogs. While it is a short read, the length was right for this story and it felt like a complete story. I felt like I got a good feel for the two main character their personalities and this author her writing style really works for me. I would recommend this to people looking for a fun and short read about two realistic characters and their dogs.

Glad this was a good one. Novellas can be tough because often they try to fit in so much so glad the length worked for this story. Plus dogs are always a plus for me in books. Great review!

Yes it’s too bad when authors try to cram in too much in a novella, so I was glad that wasn’t the case here. The novella length worked perfect for this story :). And the dogs were fun to read about.
So happy you enjoyed this one, it looks so cute! I love when a sweet romance has dogs in it.
I am glad the length worked for you. I love reading novellas, sometimes, and I am glad this one worked.
Great review, Lola!

It was a cute read and lots of fun too. And it’s always a plus when a book has pets in it, the dogs were great in this one. I like reading novella’s and short stories especially when the length fits the story, which was the case here.
Oooh I’m totally going to add this one to my novella stash, it sounds cute! π

I hope you enjoy it as well :). It was such a fun and well written novella!
Neat that it hooked you in from the first pages and that the characters were likeable and felt real even if it moved fast. I love that they are both dog lovers and meet at the dog park.

You’re welcome! I had so much fun reading this one :). And the short length really worked here. Looking forward to read more of your books this year!
I don”t mind when things move and get resolved fast as long as they stay believable which seems to b the case here π Sometimes you just need a short easy fun fast read like this one π

Exactly it’s okay if things move fast when it makes sense and stays believable. I like novella’s for that reason, they are short and fun.
It’s good to hear this grabbed you from the start. Novella’s can feel like a rushed story but it’s nice to find one that is satisfying to read. Great review Lola!

It’s great when you find a satisfying novella :).
Yay! I’m so happy you enjoyed this one, Lola. And seems to have packed a great story into a few pages and I’m always impressed when an author can do that. I also like that you feel she makes her characters so realistic. That helps in connecting to the characters and makes the story more enjoyable. Lovely review, Lola!
Happy weekend! {{hugs}}

Me too, I am always impressed when authors can write a good novella as it so easy for them to feel rushed. And it’s nice how realistic her characters feel.
That’s awesome that you enjoyed so much that you were gripped and read it in one sitting! And I can see why, with the realistic characters and how it was just the right length for the story. And sometimes a book that makes you smile is just what you need. And the dogs sound like a nice addition too π
Exactly, sometimes you just need a fun read that makes you smile and this book did exactly that. And the short length fit the story.
Aww, this one sounds like a great read. Plus the addition of dogs, deym, I really need to check this one out.

I hope you do! It gives a good feel the author her writing style and it’s just such a fun read! And I love dogs or other pets in books, they always make for a fun addition.
I love when an author includes pets as part of story. Glad you enjoyed this one. I don’t think all stories need to be long. Some work better when they’re shorter. I’ve even read a few books that I felt should’ve shorter. Glad this one was the perfect length for you.

This definitely was one of those stories that worked great with the shorter length. The length was perfect for the story. I also have had some books that I felt that could’ve been shorter, so I know what you mean. And pets are always fun to read about.
Yay! I’m so glad you enjoyed this one, as I enjoyed it too. π It was a fun story, and perfect for a quick weekend read.
