Dating can be tough when you nerd out over barbecue. Kenta, a practical pitmaster, looks for a grill-friend in Chihiro, an aloof and faultless business babe…or is she? Scared of being rejected for who they really are, the two of them find comfort in food and each other…and all is well until Kenta must transfer away. With their developing relationship at steak, Chihiro proposes they tie the knot and they marry for better or wurst. Winging a long-distance marriage is one thing, but here’s the rub-they barely know each other! It’s a rare marriage where all the awkwardness of dating meets a sizzling passion for grilling!

My Review

I received a free copy from the publisher through Netgalley and voluntarily reviewed it.

This book sounded fun and I liked the sound of the food theme, so I decided to give this one a try. I was in the mood for some easy graphic novels to read and just finished a few others when I picked this one up. I had a great time with it. It’s a bit silly, but I had fun reading it.

The premise of this one is that Kenta and Chihiro go on a date after finding each other through a dating app, they enjoy the time spend together and plan to go on future dates, but then Kenta hears he gets a transfer. For some reason they think it makes sense to get married so they can continue to see each other. I have no clue why long distance dating wasn’t considered, but anyway they get married and Chihiro commutes to Hamamatsu from Tokyo each weekend to spend time with Kenta.

A lot of the scenes with the two of them involve them grilling or cooking food in some way. I liked the food focus and seeing them spend time together grilling and eating and getting to know each other better. There are even recipes in this manga when Kenta makes a lot of the meals they eat. I liked their passion for grilling and eating and how they connect through their mutual love for it.

I liked the awkward and sweet romance vibes between the two of them. It reminds me a bit of arranged marriage trope books with the couple being married, but not knowing each other as well yet. I liked seeing them slowly grow closer and they were just so cute together. There are some funny scenes and I liked reading this one. The artwork was nice and fit the book well.

To summarize: This was a fun read. The premsie is a bit silly with them getting married so they can keep seeing each other after Kenta gets a transfer to another city, but it led to these fun sweet scenes of them getting to know each other spending weekends together while grilling food. It was a fun and cute read. I liked the food theme and seeing these two connect over their mutual passion for food and grilling. I liked seeing them grow a bit closer throughout the book. There are some funny moments as well and I enjoyed reading it. I plan to pick up the next volume.
