Blurb:
The kings and queens of France are back—and they’re a royal pain in the ass.

GoPol has fallen, Gaspar has returned to me, and the existence of ghosts has become public knowledge. While the rest of the world scrambles to understand the dead, I’m just trying to live in peace—but sharing a home with Sébastien, now leading GoPol’s reformation, and Gaspar, who’s drowning in guilt, is easier said than done. Three’s a crowd, and my peace has been hard-bought.

And now, the Chevalier d’Os has come to collect. In exchange for his help in bringing down GoPol, I promised to aid his reanimation project. That’s how I find myself in the crypts of St. Denis, bargaining with the long-dead kings and queens of France—who, surprise, have egos as big as their tombs and ludicrous demands that could get me killed.

It all comes to a head at the Royal Ball. While I still chase the monarchs’ favour, sinister plans unfold in the shadows. It’s five to midnight, and I’ll have to decide how much I’m willing to sacrifice to stop a game of thrones I never signed up to play—or risk meeting the guillotine.

Urban Fantasy with a French twist. If you like cave-crawling adventures, hopeless romantics, and ghosts, you’ll enjoy Ghosts of the Monarchy, the 7th book of the Parisian Ghosts series. Travel to Paris today to attend the Royal Ball.

My Review

I was in the mood for a book by a familiar author in a series I already started and decided that was the perfect time to pick up this seventh book in the Parisian Ghosts series. This book continues some plot lines and is the start of a new plot arc. The end of book 6 brought some big changes. Ghosts are now known to the public, some big changes happened at GoPol and Alix is trying to make her romance work with both Gasper and Sébastien. This book has a lot going on and I had a great time reading it.

I really liked seeing the world slowly change now the knowledge of ghosts has been made public as well as the new opportunities this means for Alix. She starts organizing ghosts tours at the Pantheon where she works, which was so fun to read about. I like her passion for giving ghosts a voice and how she can do that now. Then there is a favor she own The Chevalier as well as an event she’s helping organize at Versailles, which brings her in contact with the ghosts of the monarchy and most notable the three queens that rule them. I have to say I wasn’t the biggest fan of the queens plot line and felt like I missed a bit due to not knowing as much about them, but I still enjoyed seeing it all play out. There’s also a new ghost whisperer she’s helping and showing her methods. There are some twists and turns along the way.

As with the previous books I enjoy reading about Alix, her friendship with the ghosts is wonderful to read about and I like how she sees them as real and wants to help them. And now she has more opportunity to help the ghosts and give them a voice, which was wonderful to see. Her romance with both Gasper and Sébastien has some bumps they’re dealing with, but also some wonderful moments and I liked seeing them try and figure things out and how to be together as the three of them. It was lovely to finally see the romance go in this direction and I liked seeing how Sébastien and Gasper are therefor each other as well as how their romance with Alix works out.

To summarize: Another solid read in this series. This book starts a new plot arc after the big events of book 6. A lot has changed and the world now knows about ghosts which brings new challenges and opportunities for Alix. I liked seeing this play out and how this changed things and seeing Alix have the opportunity to be a voice for the ghosts. I liked reading about Alix and her friendship with the ghosts and how he wants to help them. I also liked her romance with Gasper and Sébastien progress, they have some struggles to deal with as well, but I liked seeing the glimpse of hope they can make this work. All in all this continues to be a great series and I look forward to the next book!
