Genre: Urban Fantasy
Age Category: New Adult
Type of romance: m/f

Blurb:
Lies, deception, and betrayal — if you thought the living were bad, wait until you meet the dead.

After narrowly escaping the catacombs of Paris, I plan to stay away from ghosts. I will, right after I’ve settled a newly departed in the afterlife, got rid of the ghost police unit who have taken an interest in my talents, and completed on last favour. Of course, with my luck, that last favour is a bitch.

Somehow I promised the last Grandmaster of the Templars, who was burned at the stake for devil worship, an introduction to my famous dead friends at the Panthéon. Before I know it, I’m chasing lost treasures, righting seven-century-old wrongs, and getting sucked into a spectral power struggle that could forever blur the lines between life and death.

Everybody wants my help, but not all of them need me alive.

Urban Fantasy with a French twist. If you like cave-crawling adventures, hopeless romantics, and ghosts, you’ll enjoy Ghosts of the Crusade, the second instalment of the Parisian Ghosts series. Travel to Paris today to embark on your catacomb adventure.

My Review

I really enjoyed book 1 and not much later I picked up book 2 eager to continue the story. Ghosts of the Crusade picks up pretty much after book 1 ended. I like how there was a new ghosts to help, but besides that it very much felt like a continuation of the first book in most ways. I thought this worked well and I really enjoyed reading more about Alix and the ghosts.

Alix got quite the shock at the end of book 1 and she struggles a lot with that in this book. She promised to help a ghost and is working on that. The plot is engaging and I wanted to keep reading. There are some interesting reveals about both ghosts and ghosts whisperers in this book. There is more danger, more ghost problems, more romance and more of her cute hedgehog pet.

One of the things I like most about this book is Alix herself, she is kind and wants to help ghosts. And most of all she sees them as real people and values them. I liked that about her even though those she works with don’t see ghosts the same way she does. I like seeing her interact with the ghosts. The setting in France is great too.

It’s just such an engaging read. I wanted to keep reading, see what happened next and see how everything would play out. The ending again brings some big changes and I while I rarely binge read a series, I already started book 3 right after I finished this one.

To summarize: Ghosts of the Crusade was an engaging second book in this series. After the ending of book 1 I was eager to read book 2 and see how things would go. Alix has to deal with the big reveal she got at the end of book 1 and there’s another ghost she promised to help. I like how kind and caring Alix is and how she genuinely wants to help the ghosts. She also seem them as real people and values them. There are some exciting developments in this book as well as some big reveals and I couldn’t wait to see how those would all play out in book 3 and thus already started the next one. The fresh take on the genre with the way the ghosts whispering works and the France setting is well done and the writing, plot and characters keep me reading.
