If the Sapphire Sparks want to win their cheer competition, they’re going to have to work hard – and it’s up to captain and dragon shifter Zara to figure out how.

Zara has a bit of a reputation thanks to her strict management of the Sapphire Sparks cheer squad. And more than that, she’s determined to win the final round of their cheer competition and lift the trophy before she graduates.

When she turns to Blaze for help, she accidentally finds someone who might actually be able to see through the bad reputation and find the real dragon beneath.

With the stakes high and graduation approaching, it’s now or never for Zara, and it’s a very bad time for her to risk losing her heart.

Fire Dancing For Icey Dragons is a light-hearted shifter academy m/f romance set at Obscure Academy. It features a cheer captain dragon shifter with a reputation for having a heart of ice, and the fire dancer who might be able to break through.

My Review

I received a free copy from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

I really like the Obscure Academy series and am sad to see it end with this one being the last book. Zara is the cheerleader captain and she made some appearances in previous books as some cheerleaders were main character in earlier books. She seems cold and distant and is hard on the cheerleaders, in this book we get to know Zara better and see what’s behind her icy exterior.

I wasn’t quite sure whether I would like Zara before starting this week as she isn’t very likable as a side character in previous books, but I thought it was interesting to see that there is more to her than her being a cheerleader captain as well as understand her motivations more. I understood more about why she cared about cheerleading and winning the trophy. I liked reading about her and see her romance with Blaze develop.

The romance is sweet and I liked seeing how Blaze and Zara ocloser and how he uncovered her softer side. I liked reading about their dates and seeing them fall for each other. I would’ve liked a bit more tough, more of their romance and them together. I liked Blaze, but would’ve liked to get to know him a bit better besides the fire dancing. And with so much focus on the cheerleading I thought the romance didn’t have as much space at times. I did find the cheerleading scenes interesting as it’s not something I know a lot about. Although I wasn’t as invested in the competition, but this was clearly important for Zara. And there are some sweet and touching scenes surrounding the competition.

To summarize: It was sad to see this series end as I really like it, but this book did make for a good ending with the final cheerleading competition and seeing Zara the cheerleading captain fall in love. The romance was sweet and I liked reading about them together, I just would’ve liked a bit more of their romance and learning more about Blaze. It was interesting to see more of Zara and who she is outside of the being cheerleading captain as well as understand more about why she likes cheerleading.

  1. I didn’t notice when cheerleading went from being a fun pep activity at sports events to athletic competition in its own right, but this sounds fun with it being the background for this last series book. Too bad the male character and the romance weren’t as developed as you would like.

    • I didn’t know a lot about cheerleading, so it was fun to see a few books in this series deal with it and the competitions. I just had hoped for a bit more romance in this one.
