My Rating: 4 stars

Genre: Omegaverse
Age Category: Adult
Type of romance: Polyamory

Blurb:
After a lifetime of hiding, I’m about to share my heat with the pack that saved my life.

Kam and I are in hiding after the Committee’s attempt to capture and expose us. Our old lives are over, and our new lives as part of the alphomic underground are just beginning.

Before they do, we’ll take this chance to live and love as our kind was always meant to. A fleeting glimpse into a better, happier life, and then we’ll return to the fight to free our people from oppression.

At least, that was the plan.

When the operative who recruited us disappears after a meeting gone wrong, everything descends into chaos. As an upper-level member of the underground, Rhys Beckett has information that could raze the secret resistance group to the ground, taking all of us with it.

Jax, Alex, and Flynn are determined to get him back before the worst happens—but when the would-be rescuers start disappearing one by one, our fragile new life is in danger of crumbling around us before it ever really started.

In the end, a bitter enemy may be our only hope for survival.
He may also be our ultimate downfall.

Secret Pack is a semisweet-verse trilogy with growling, knotting, and bonding, where pack is everything. All of the darkness comes from outside the central relationship, not inside. Strap in for OV goodness set against a backdrop of social upheaval. Series HEA guaranteed. What happens between now and then… not guaranteed. 😉

My Review

I received a free copy from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

Fight or Fly is the second book in the Secret pack series. I really enjoyed book 1 and was eager to dive into book 2. Book 2 starts off shortly after book 1 ends in the lead up to Leona’s heat. I wish I had been able to do a re-read of book 1 before this one so I would’ve been more into the world and characters as now that was a bit of a struggle. After a few short chapters it dives right into the steamy stuff with a 3 chapter long heat scene. This book has plenty of steam again as well as a great story.

My favorite part of this book is seeing the relationships between the characters and seeing them develop. With 5 characters that are part of this polyamorous relationship there is a lot of connections going on. I like seeing how Leona and Kam interact after having been together for years and how the alphas change that dynamic and add to it. The way Jax and Finn interact with Leona and Kam. The way Jax, Finn and Alex form their own pack and the way they care about one another. And also the way Kam and Alex grow closer and even the way Leona and Alex interact. It’s so fun to see it all play out and there’s plenty of deepening of the relationships in this book. I really liked seeing them interact and the way that changed over the course of this book. It really is an awesome romance and I really like these characters together. There are multiple point of view, so that also helps to get to know all the characters better.

The story starts with the steam and then turn to danger, which felt a bit odd, but I can see why the author did it that way. The story at first I wasn’t sure of, there is a lot of danger, battle with guns as well as torture (off page luckily) and I just wasn’t as interested in those parts. The characters don’t have a lot of agency at first and there are some parallels to the first book. I also felt like something wasn’t making sense. Then there are some big reveals and it all makes sense and falls on it’s place. I liked the reveals and the way it changes what we know and seeing the characters react to it all. I am eager to see how things get wrapped up in book 3!

To summarize: I really enjoyed this book. There’s plenty of steam, relationship building as well as plot. There is danger, fighting and some big reveals. I enjoy reading about these characters and seeing the way they all interact with one another. I wasn’t quite sure where the plot was going and felt like I was missing something, but then when the big reveal hit toward the end it all makes sense and falls on it’s place. I look forward to book 3!

    • It did make sense for the scene to be that long and it sure was a nice start of the book. I liked that moment at the end with the reveals when it all made sense.
