Deity (Convenant #3)
by Jennifer Armentrout

Blurb from Goodreads: “History is on repeat, and things didn’t go so well the last time. ”
Alexandria isn’t sure she’s going to make it to her eighteenth birthday–to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she’s a goner… and so is Aiden.

If that’s not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time “training”–which really is just Seth’s code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time–she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.

But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she’s caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed… and destroyed.

Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate…

My Review:
Deity was one of those books about which I heard quite some things already before I finally started reading. One of the things that worried me was the supposedly terrible cliffhanger, also it should be the best book in this series so far. For me Deity was just the third book in the series, it was good just like the first two books. I wanted to keep reading and Jennifers writing style is awesome. There were some predictable bits and also things that surprised me. It was an enjoyable read and I don’t think the cliffhanger was that bad.

The story starts of a bit after the second book ended and if you liked this series so far you probably will continue to like it. The problem i had with the first book that it was too close to Vampire Academy has almost totally disapeared by this book. This book also focusses more on the mythology aspect. There were some things that I predicted would happen and which didn’t happpen, which made me happy, because sometimes it is nice to have some predictions worng. There were also some predictable parts and also some parts that really took me by surprise. It also has that keep-reading-feel and I still love Jennifers writing style.

The characters develop a bit more in this book. And also stay very much the same in some ways. I still want to shake some sense in Alex sometimes, but I also like her stubborn nature. I did had some problems at the beginning of the book to remember who some characters were because it was some time since I read the second book. We get to know some side characters better and we get to see some true natures of some characters. There are quite some characters who turn out to be different then I thought. So there certainly are some surprises.

The world building get’s expanded a bit, we learn a bit more about the mythology behind it all and get to know a bit more about the Appolyons. It is not massive and world building certainly isn’t the focus, but it is there and there is added a bit in each book. I liked learning more, but there is still so much we don’t know, so I am looking forward to learning more in this book.

To conclude: a great book, it had that keep reading feel and awesome writing style. I don’t think this book was extra special or something, it is just the third book and if you like the series so far you probably will like this book too. There are some predictable parts and some big surprises. The characters stay the same and develop a bit. There is some world building added and I think the cliffhanger wasn’t that bad as it was made out to be. Yes it is a cliffahnger, but actually I am not having that feeling that I need the next book now.
