My Review

I enjoyed the first book in the series and later after reading book 1.5 set in between these books I decided it was time to read the second book. A Twist of Fate is the story of Rosalind, who got stuck in the future. She desperately is trying to find a way back to her own time and when she spots the couple from book 1 in the future she knows it’s possible to get back and she finally succeeds. She ends up being mistaken as the new governess for her son and that’s how she makes her way back to her husband and son.

A Twist of Fate has a different feel than the first book, but I thought that worked well. I like how this series explores different ways of time travel. Rosalind is from the past and has now spend 4 years in the future before she goes back and I like the way that time in the future changed her. Just like the first book there is a again a haunting and a mystery. I liked the mystery of the haunting, there was an interesting twist toward the end that I didn’t see coming and it was interesting reading how it all got resolved.

While I enjoyed book 1 more, I still had a great time with this one. I liked Rosalind and seeing her try and get back to her son and husband. The way she has to pretend to be someone else, while still letting pieces of herself shine through. I like how she is capable, smart and likes to bake. I also liked her determination of getting back to her family and I enjoyed the scenes with Edmund and seeing her joy at being reunited with her son and then later with August as well.

I also liked the romance with August, but I would’ve liked a bit more. Most of the book they spend separated, August not knowing yet that Rosalind is back. I appreciate how there is little drama, although a few things went a bit too smoothly. August and Rosalind had a few troubles in their marriage and the way those got resolved off page felt a bit unsatisfying, especially as we don’t see August overcome this. And at the same time it was just really nice not to have the situation turn into more drama and the focus instead be on the plot and the joy of them reuniting.

To summarize: This was another great read in this series. I like the blend of time travel, historical and paranormal elements and the way it blends into a great story. The story kept my attention as I wanted to see how Rosalind finds her way back to her family. I liked the mystery and the unexpected twist at the end. I like Rosalind, the way she’s smart, capable and determined and also how she likes to bake. I liked the romance between Rosalind and August, although I would’ve loved more scenes of them together as there aren’t as many with how they spend most of the book apart. I like how low on drama this book was, although a few things do feel a bit too easy. I liked seeing how everything got resolved at the end and I look forward to the next book!
