Lola’s Kitchen is a feature on Lola’s Reviews where I talk about all things related to food, cooking and baking. These posts can be recipe posts or more discussion type posts about food. I love cooking and spend some time in the kitchen almost every day, so I wanted to give it a place on my blog as well. The banner for this feature is designed by Michelle from Limabean Design.

Today I’ll be sharing the recipe with you for Twisted Cinnamon Bread. I made this twice now and I love it!

Normally I actually don’t cook or bake that often, my sister is usually the one who cooks here. But sometimes I just have a day where I want to cook or bake. When I have to cook dinner for only myself I usually go for something simple, like pizza, soup or pancakes. Actually I am pretty lazy sometimes. I prefer cooking for more people than myself. So while I don’t cook that often and usually don’t even like it, I have these moods where I really want to cook or bake something and I love food. So I’ll be trying to share a recipe or food related post every saturday :).

Most of my new recipe inspiration comes from Pinterest, I have a board dedicated to Delicious (looking) Food. I try to post a comment when I tried a recipe to let followers know how it turned out.

So the Twisted Cinnamon Bread recipe is not something I came up with myself. I found the recipe on a ducth site named Culy and I knew I had to try this and thus pinned it, you can see the pin here.

Because the recipe I used was in Dutch I went to search for an english recipe (with those weird measurements like cups and such). I finally found an english recipe on the site Totally Love It. So I’ll be sharing her recipe and with my own pictures. Recipe is not my own, pictures are ;).

Ingredients
Dough:
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup lukewarm milk
1 envelope active dry yeast or 0.6 Oz
1/8 cup melted butter
1 egg yolk
1 tbsp sugar

Filling:
1/4 cup softened butter
4-5 tbsp sugar
3 tsp cinnamon

Method:
– Mix the yeast and sugar with the lukewarm milk and let it sit a few minutes while the yeast bubbles and foams up.
– Add the egg yolk, the melted butter, the flour and the salt, then knead the dough and shape into a ball.
– Place the dough in a large, greased bowl, then cover and place in a warm space and let rise until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
– Preheat oven to about 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Dust your work surface with flour, and roll the dough out to a thickness of 1cm.
– Spread the melted butter across all of the dough, then sprinkle the cinnamon and sugar mixture.
– Roll up the dough, and using a knife, cut the log in half length-wise.
– Twist the two halves together, keeping the open layers exposed as described in the photo tutorial. Give a round shape, then transfer to a baking tray (buttered or covered with cookie sheet).
– Top the remaining butter and sprinkle some sugar and cinnamon mixture. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until the top is golden brown.
– Reduce the oven temperature to 350 degrees Fahrenheit after 5-10 minutes to stop it burning. Top with icing sugar mixed with water if you want, just sprinkle some sugar, or eat it like this.

My tip: If your house it too cold for the dough to rise, take the dough with you to the bathroom, put it on a dry place and then take a long hot shower. The bathroom will be warm and your dough can rise :).

And now some pictures 🙂
This is how my dough looked after rising

I mixed the sugar and cinnamon through the molten butter and then put it on the dough, I found out mixing it first works too. Also both times I made this I didn’t need all of the molten butter.

And then after slicing it. It looks horrible, I think, but then again it doesn’t really matter how horrible it looks now. It still turned out well in the end ;). So don’t worry if the dough looks a bit weird at first.

And a close up of the rolled up and then sliced dough, looks fancy all those layers.

And then the end result, it doesn’t look as nice as on the Pinterest pictures, but trust me it’s yummy 🙂

I hope you enjoyed todays post, I am always a bit hesitant to do something new on the blog and then wonder what people think of it. So if you have time, please drop a comment to let me know what you think of this post and if you like seeing more food related posts in the future.

    • Glad you like it :). And please let me know how it turns out if you end up making this.
It was so much fun to make pictures of every step in the process and I am always amazed at how different it looks from the pictures on Pinterest and then it still is delicious.

    • You can really smell the cinnamon when you make this, I always trow in a little bit more cinnamon than the recipe says because I love cinnamon. It’s easy to make and it’s really delicious, although the bread has to rise for quite some time, that’s the only minpoint of this.

    • Cutting it into smaller portions and making rolls from it, is a great idea too! With this recipe you end up with one big bread and I always feel sad if I have to cut it into pieces.
