MyTBRList

My To-Be Read List is a meme hosted by Because Reading is Better Than Real Life where at the beginning of the month visitors can choose which book I’ll be reading this month. On the first saturday of a month the poll will be up, then on the second saturday of the month I’ll announce the book that won and on the last saturday of the month I’ll post my review of the book.

Okay below are are the 3 books on which you can vote this month, all 3 books are science-fiction books as I am in the mood for a sci-fi book. And that’s not the only theme this month, these 3 books are all standalones or the first book in a series and I own all of them in paperback. Now let the votign begin!

Blurb:
It’s a night like any other on board the Icarus. Then, catastrophe strikes: the massive luxury spaceliner is yanked out of hyperspace and plummets into the nearest planet. Lilac LaRoux and Tarver Merendsen survive. And they seem to be alone.

Lilac is the daughter of the richest man in the universe. Tarver comes from nothing, a young war hero who learned long ago that girls like Lilac are more trouble than they’re worth. But with only each other to rely on, Lilac and Tarver must work together, making a tortuous journey across the eerie, deserted terrain to seek help.

Then, against all odds, Lilac and Tarver find a strange blessing in the tragedy that has thrown them into each other’s arms. Without the hope of a future together in their own world, they begin to wonder—would they be better off staying here forever?

Everything changes when they uncover the truth behind the chilling whispers that haunt their every step. Lilac and Tarver may find a way off this planet. But they won’t be the same people who landed on it.

Few books are greeted with rave reviews everywhere from Time magazine and Salon to Boingboing and io9. Yet, Max Barry’s Lexicon is that rare thing: a thriller as high-octane as they come, driven by a brilliant and original plot that connects very modern questions of privacy and data collection to centuries-old ideas about the power of language.

At an exclusive training school at an undisclosed location outside Washington, D.C., students are taught to control minds, to wield words as weapons. The very best graduate as “poets” and enter a nameless organization of unknown purpose. Recruited off the street, whip-smart Emily Ruff quickly learns the one key rule: never allow another person to truly know you. Emily becomes the school’s most talented prodigy, until she makes the catastrophic mistake of falling in love.

Blurb:
I should not exist. But I do.

Eva and Addie started out the same way as everyone else—two souls woven together in one body, taking turns controlling their movements as they learned how to walk, how to sing, how to dance. But as they grew, so did the worried whispers. Why aren’t they settling? Why isn’t one of them fading? The doctors ran tests, the neighbors shied away, and their parents begged for more time. Finally Addie was pronounced healthy and Eva was declared gone. Except, she wasn’t . . .

For the past three years, Eva has clung to the remnants of her life. Only Addie knows she’s still there, trapped inside their body. Then one day, they discover there may be a way for Eva to move again. The risks are unimaginable-hybrids are considered a threat to society, so if they are caught, Addie and Eva will be locked away with the others. And yet . . . for a chance to smile, to twirl, to speak, Eva will do anything.

Now it’s time to vote!

    • I’ve heard so many good thigns about These Broken Stars that I eventually gave in an bought it and the cover is pretty and it sounds like a good sci-fi with interestign characters, which is the type of sci-fi I like. I am glad to hear you liked it so much 🙂

    • I’ve been wanting to read it for a long time as well, although I only got my copy a while ago. It sounds like a great sci-fi book.

    • I am really curious to find out what i think about These Broken Stars as well, everyone seems to love it and it sounds really good. So I hope I’ll like it as much as I do, but I also hope I don’t get my hopes up too high.

    • I saw it on Oh the Books during november sci-fi month last year and it just sounded so good and interestign I got my copy shortly after that. The whole words have power thing sounds really intriguing.

    • At this point it looks like These Broken Stars is going to win, although What’s left of Me also got a few votes and Lexicon only one so far.
Just like you I’ve had my eye on These Broken Stars since it was first released, but only got my copy a few months ago. I really want to read it.

  1. Ooooh These Broken Stars! That is one I MUST read, sooner than later, so I would love to see a review of it! Though, I also own What’s Left of Me, and would like to see a review on that as well… so really, this is tough! I did vote for These Broken Stars though, mainly because of the cover, if I am being completely honest 😉 Hope you enjoy whichever one wins/you read!

    • That cover is so stunning! It’s what got my attention to the book in the first place as well and if I can believe the hype it’s a good book as well. I also keep thinking I must read it soon. What’s left of Me is a book I pre-ordered as I loved the concept and then never got around to reading it and now the whole series is complete already.
So far it seems that These Broken Stars is goign to win, which I had expected to be honest 😉

    • It sounds like a great book and a romance in space when stranded on an alien planet sounds like the type of book I would enjoy. And so many people seem to love this book, so I am really curious about this book. Glad to ehar it’s on your to-read list as well :). TBS got the most votes so far, so I think it will win.

    • It’s going to win, I am pretty sure of that. It has 12 votes now I think while the next one only has 5 and the other only 1 vote. Everyone seems to know These Broken Stars and wants to read it as well, so that’s making me only more eager to read it!
