My To-Be Read List is a meme hosted by Because Reading is Better Than Real Life where at the beginning of the month visitors can choose which book I’ll be reading this month. On the first saturday of a month the poll will be up, then on the second saturday of the month I’ll announce the book that won and on the last saturday of the month I’ll post my review of the book.
Okay below are are the 3 books on which you can vote this month. I picked 3 totally different books for this one. Different genres and different sources how I got them. One is a cozy mystery, another a contemporary romance and the last one a sci-fi romance. Once I got from netgalley, the second from edelweiss and the last one I bought myself. What they do have in common is that they are all books I keep thinking I want to read right now, but can’t seem to get around to. And they are all first books in a series.
Death of a Toy Soldier (Vintage Toyshop Mystery #1)
by Barbara Early
Blurb:
Liz McCall grew up in a playful winter wonderland but it was never her dream to manage her father’s vintage toyshop. However, after he sank his entire police pension into the business, someone needed to help him turn his dreams into reality—and keep him from sneaking off to patrol the not-so-mean streets of East Aurora, NY.The mood goes from nice to naughty when a nervous man, who was trying to have his antique toys appraised, is found in the shop with a lawn dart through his chest. Suddenly, Liz’s business plan is plunged into deep freeze, while she and her father find themselves toying with a cold-blooded killer who’s playing for keeps.
Now, it looks like Christmas might be cancelled for the neighborhood kids if Liz can’t wrap up the case in Barbara Early’s delightful debut Death of a Toy Soldier.
I want to read this one as the vintage toy shop sounds like such a fun setting! I went to the author her release day party on facebook and it really got me excited fo this book, the author came up with vintage games that she adapted for facebook and told things about her book. Which made me only more curious about this one!
Sweet Little Lies (Heartbreaker Bay #1)
by Jill Shalvis
Blurb:
Choose the one guy you can’t have . . .As captain of a San Francisco Bay tour boat, Pru can handle rough seas—the hard part is life on dry land. Pru loves her new apartment and her neighbors; problem is, she’s in danger of stumbling into love with Mr. Right for Anybody But Her.
Fall for him—hard . . .
Pub owner Finn O’Riley is six-foot-plus of hard-working hottie who always makes time for his friends. When Pru becomes one of them, she discovers how amazing it feels to be on the receiving end of that deep green gaze. But when a freak accident involving darts (don’t ask) leads to shirtless first aid, things rush way past the friend zone. Fast.
And then tell him the truth.
Pru only wants Finn to be happy; it’s what she wishes for at the historic fountain that’s supposed to grant her heart’s desire. But wanting him for herself is a different story—because Pru’s been keeping a secret that could change everything. . . .
I read my first Jill Shalvis series last year, the Cedar Ridge series and I really enjoyed that one, so I have been eager to read more of her books. By now book 2 is already released as well and I got book 3 for review as well, so this sounds like a good time to start this series.
The Chase (Huntress of the Star Empire #1 – 3)
by Athena Grayson
Blurb:
Getting him in handcuffs was the easy part…The Chase (Episodes 1-3)
–Episode 1: Hot Pursuit
–Episode 2: Captivated
–Episode 3: TailspinKnown to her targets as the Huntress, Treska Sivekka hunts down the aliens and psypaths whose mental talents are a threat to Union security. Now, with the last free psypath in her crosshairs, Treska’s mission is about to be fulfilled.
She’s not the only one who wants a piece of Micah Ariesis, and she’ll have to fight off the scum of the star system to keep him in her handcuffs. Her only problem is that she wants him in her arms…
I want to read this one as it sounds like an exciting sci-fi romance. I am part of this author her newsletter and each newsletter just makes me curious about her books. I also have the second box set already, so I can’t wait to start this series.
Now it’s time to vote!
I was in a sci-fi mood for most of last month and it lingers even as I shift into my holiday wants so I voted for your sci-fi. The chase sounded exciting.

I am a bit in a multiple genre mood lately, but I am still in a sci-fi mood as well. The Chase sounds like a good one and I have the second box set as well already.

I’m picking Death of a Toy Soldier, because that toy shop setting would be a fun one to read about. And also it sounds like a fun winter read and I know you are enjoying cosy mysteries this year. Hope you like whatever wins!

I voted for the Jill Shalvis book because I love Jill Shalvis and would love to see what you think of this one. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it and want to read it myself after I finish her Lucky Harbor series.

NUTCRACKER COVER FOR THE WIN! You know me and Nutcrackers. I had to pick that one based on the cover 🙂
Yes I know you and your collection of nutcrackers ;). It is a nice cover and I love the idea of a toy shop cozy mystery.
Death of a Toy Soldier for me too. Her Father sounds like he might be a hoot, between loving toys and wanting to patrol when he shouldn’t anymore!

It sounds like it will be a great read! And her father sounds like he will be an interesting character.
I voted The Chase as I love sci fi and I like the art on that one. Although the Toy Soldier sounds fun too.

That’s nice you also have the Hill Shalvis one, I really enjoyed her Cedar Ridge series, so I am curious about her other books and hope to start this series soon.
Yikes! My first thought was that I had to vote for the mystery, but then you have a Jill Shalvis book on the list. And then the science fiction romance sounds like a good option too. Hmm. I’m going with the cozy, I think. I hope you enjoy whichever wins. They all sound so good.
