Lola’s Kitchen is a feature on Lola’s Reviews where I talk about all things related to food, cooking and baking. These posts can be recipe posts, tens list posts about food or recipes or more discussion type posts about food. I love cooking and spend some time in the kitchen almost every day, so I wanted to give it a place on my blog as well. The banner for this feature is designed by Michelle from Limabean Designs.

These are actually red velvet chocolate chip cookies, but as I didn’t have red food coloring, it felt wrong to call them that as they don’t look like red velvet. I was looking for a cookie recipe one day and stumbled upon a pin of One Little Projects Red velvet Chocolate Chip Cookies. I noticed that she added cacao powder, extra vanilla and some food coloring. Then I picked my standard cookie recipe and added the cacao and more vanilla and this recipe was born.

    • They are pretty simple to make and taste really good. There are so many good ways to eat a chocolate chip cookie and so many possible additions. I actually don’t think I’ve eaten many chocolate chip oatmeal cookies.

  1. We don’t eat many cookies nowadays. But I can totally see why these were so good! I love a thick chocolate chip cookie when I go for one. ❤️ This is a really neat feature Lola! I love it. Can’t wait to see what you make next.

    • I really liked cookies, although in summer I often feel less the urge to bake. These were really good. A chocolate chip cookie is always great. I am glad to hear you like this feature :). I have lots more recipes planned to share.

    • Yes as far as I know red velvet is just vanilla combined with chocolate, often cacao powder. And then they add the coloring stuff to make it recognizable (at least that’s my theory). But the flavor is still the same even if it isn’t red. These are really good 🙂

  2. I made these cookies for my wife a few days ago, and she declared they were the best chocolate chip cookies she has ever eaten; even better than his mother’s! My kids also loved these! Thank you so much for the recipe, Lola! Pinned!
