Lola’s Kitchen is a feature on Lola’s Reviews where I talk about all things related to food, cooking and baking. These posts can be recipe posts, tens list posts about food or recipes or more discussion type posts about food. I love cooking and spend some time in the kitchen almost every day, so I wanted to give it a place on my blog as well. The banner for this feature is designed by Michelle from Limabean Designs.

This recipe is so simple to make, requires only a few ingredients and is ready in about 15 minutes. We usually don’t eat this as dinner, but I like to make it as lunch when we want something warm and noodle-y. It has this rich savory and slightly salty flavor.

This recipe is inspired by Marion’s Kitchen Crispy Egg, Bacon & Kimchi Noodles recipe. But most of the recipe is different, only the idea of a simple udon dish and a bit of the sauce is the same.

Ingredients

  • Udon Noodles – 100 gram
  • Olive Oil
  • Garlic – 3 cloves
  • Soy sauce – 1 tablespoon
  • Miso paste – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Sugar – 3/4 teaspoon
  • Sesame Oil – about1 teaspoon
  • Butter – a small slice
  • Spring onion – 1-2 stalks (optional)

This makes enough for one person, but you can easily double it if you want to make more.

Method

  1. First prepare the udon noodles. I always buy these dried udon noodles that have to cook for about 10 minutes. But just follow the instructions of your udon noodles.
  2. While the udon noodles are boiling I prepare the rest of the ingredients. Slice the garlic and put it in the wok with a bit of olive oil, but wait with heating it till the noodles are done. The soy sauce, miso, sugar and butter I like to get ready in a small bowl so I can easily add it later. If you want to top it with spring onions you can slice those in small slices now.
  3. Once the udon noodles are done cooking, drain them and then stir the sesame oil through them. Now heat the olive oil in the wok and bake till the garlic is just starting to brown. Then add the udon noodles as well as the sauce ingredients. Stir for a few minutes until well combined. Then add the spring onion at the end and stir through so it gets heated a bit and remove form the heat then.
  4. Now you can eat your udon noodles.
