Lola’s Kitchen is a feature on Lola’s Reviews where I talk about all things related to food, cooking and baking. These posts can be recipe posts, tens list posts about food or recipes or more discussion type posts about food. I love cooking and spend some time in the kitchen almost every day, so I wanted to give it a place on my blog as well. The banner for this feature is designed by Michelle from Limabean Designs.

We came across this recipe on a Youtube channel we follow. My boyfriend wanted to give these a try, I don’t eat shrimp, so I made it for him. I have no clue how it tastes, but it sure smelled nice. It’s a salty and hearty dish where the noodles and sesame oil really shine and if you like shrimps this is a great dish to try.

This recipe is based on Marion’s Kitchen 15-minute Garlic Prawn Udon recipe

Ingredients

  • Shrimp/ Prawn peeled and deveined – 250 gram
  • Chinese Cabbage – 2 cups/ 1 cabbage
  • Sesame Oil – 2 teaspoons
  • Udon Noodles – 180 gram
  • Garlic – 4 gloves
  • Sugar – 1 teaspoon
  • Oyster Sauce or vegetarian stir fry sauce – 3 tablespoons
  • Olive Oil
  • Soy Sauce – 1 tablespoon
  • Spring Onion – 2-4

This feeds about 2 people.

Method

  1. First start boiling the udon noodles. Bowl them according to package instructions. I always have dried noodles and they need to be cooked around 8 minutes. When the noodles are done cooking add 1 teaspoon sesame oil and set aside.
  2. In the meantime start slicing the Chinese cabbage. Heath some olive oil and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil in a wok and heat till very warm, then start baking the chinese cabbage. You have to bake this for 5 minutes or so, until brown spots appear on the cabbage.
  3. In the meantime start slicing the the garlic and make it fine using a garlic press. Once the cabbage is browning add half of the sugar and soy sauce and bake for another minute. Then add the garlic and stir fry for another few minutes.
  4. Now add the prawns/ shrimps to the wok and bake for a few more minutes. Also add the rest of the sugar, soy sauce and oyster sauce. You can add some chili flakes if you like your dish a it spicier.
  5. When the shrimps are done baking, usually after a few minutes when they’re pink and have curled up more. I used frozen pre-cooked ones. Then add the udon noodles and stir well.
  6. You can add some spring onion on top and then serve.

    • I hope you like it if you give it a try :).

That sounds like an interesting dish you made. I am not a fan of shrimp and asparagus, but that combination of ingredients sounds interesting.
