Lola’s Kitchen is a feature on Lola’s Reviews where I talk about all things related to food, cooking and baking. These posts can be recipe posts, tens list posts about food or recipes or more discussion type posts about food. I love cooking and spend some time in the kitchen almost every day, so I wanted to give it a place on my blog as well. The banner for this feature is designed by Michelle from Limabean Designs.
We found this recipe in one of the magazine from our supermarket and my boyfriend wanted it for lunch. He says it’s very good. I haven’t made a vegetarian version of it yet, so I can’t tell you much about the taste. The sauce is a bit sour and salty. It’s relatively quick and easy to make.
Ingredients
- Green beans- 200 gram
- Chicken – 200 gram
- Silver Onions – 50 gram/ 3 tablespoons
- Ketjap Manis – 1 tablespoon
- Tomato Paste- 2 teaspoons
- Olive Oil
- Garlic – 2 gloves or 2 teaspoons
This feeds about 1-2 people. You can add some sesame seeds on top.
Method
- First slice the green beans in small pieces, then set to boil for about 17 minutes.
- In the meantime start on the chicken. Cut it in small squares and then start baking it in a medium sized pan or wok.
- Once the chicken is baked, add the tomato paste, garlic and ketjap manis. Stir well, then add the silver onions (I wash them first, but you can also use them as they are).
- Once the green beans are done cooking, add to the wok and stir until well combined.
You can serve with rice, paste or eat plain.
This does sound good. It reminds me of a Mediterranean dish my Egyptian cooking teacher taught us. I can’t remember the name of it now… I’ll have to dig through my recipe box since its been years.
But, I would definitely try this one that you found. 🙂

Maybe it’s inspired by that dish, who knows. This one came form the magazine our supermarket publicizes each month.
Let me know what you think of you decide to give it a try 🙂
I’m sorry that it’s been awhile since I’ve stopped voer to visit. Been sick, and also involved in various projects. This is a recipe that I love because it seems really simple to do, and I like that it works well for just 1-2 people. I could see using steak with this instead of chicken too. Thanks for this! No problem! I know how busy life can get. And sorry to hear you’ve been sick. It’s nice to have some simple recipes like this.
Sounds tasty, but I think I’d add some rice too. I love easy recipes! My go to quick dinner is always a stir fry I love then.
I usually add some rice to it too nowadays, except for the first time I made this which is when i took the picture. Stir frys are great for quick dinners :).
This sounds pretty good. I’d have to leave out the garlic since I don’t like that though. I make stir fry usually when I want a quick dish. I’ve missed these cooking posts from you. I hope you do more of them in the future.

I am sure it tastes great even without the garlic. I have a few more posts scheduled for future months and I have many more recipes I still need to type out. I just need to make time to do so. I am glad to hear you like these posts 🙂
That sounds delicious, but what are silver onions????
Thanks!

They’re these little round onion, you usually buy them in a pot with some sour stuff like vinegar. Silver onions or silverskin onions was the word I found for them online.
This sounds delicious! Idk what Ketjap Manis or silver onions are, but I like all the other things, and I like onions in general, so… yep, sounds and looks great lol. And sesame seeds seem so innocuous but can really add some great flavor to certain dishes!

Maybe Ketjap is something you don’t have? Or I used the wrong word. It’s this dark blackish sauce that’s used in Asian dishes. And silver onion are small round onion usually bought in a pot with some sour stuff like vinegar in the pot too.
