Lola’s Kitchen is a feature on Lola’s Reviews where I talk about all things related to food, cooking and baking. These usually are recipe posts or more discussion type posts about food. I love cooking and spend some time in the kitchen almost every day, so I wanted to give it a place on my blog as well. The banner for this feature is designed by Michelle from Limabean Designs.

If you know me, then you probably will be surprised I even made bread. I love bread, but rarely make it as I don’t have the patience for the whole rising and waiting process. This bread is different tough, it uses yeast for the rising process and then means no waiting. After seeing this recipe on Youtube I had to give it a try. I am not a big cheese fan, but I made a small cupcake form of bread for myself so I could taste test the dough and it tastes great. It’s both sweet and salt and has this hearty flavor. With the cheese you also get these pockets of cheese in the bread.

This recipe is based on Kuma’s Kitchen Cheddar Cheese & Pale Ale Bread recipe

Cheese Bread

Ingredients

  • Flour – 3 cups/ 175 gram
  • Baking soda – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – 1 teaspoon/ 6 gram
  • Pepper – 1 teaspoon
  • Cheese – 150 gram
  • Beer – 1 bottle/ 300 ml
  • Honey – 1/4 cup
  • 1 egg

For the cheese the original recipe used cheddar cheese. I tried it with medium aged gouda cheese, which worked fine too. I also have this idea of adding pieces of ham to it as well if you’re a meat eater, that might work out well.

For the beer the original recipe used a pale ale, we used a dark brown beer and that works fine too. So just use whatever beer you like.

Method

  1. First heat up the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit/ 180 degrees Celsius. And cover a loaf pan with cooking paper.
  2. In a large bowl combine the flour, baking soda, salt and pepper. Give it a few stirs then add the honey and the beer. Mix till combined.
  3. Slice the the cheese into cubes, of about half an inch by half an inch or 1 by 1 centimeter. Then stir the cubes through the bread mixture.
  4. Pour the batter into the loaf pan and bake for about 45 minutes and a skewer or toothpick comes out clean. Let it cool in the loaf pan for a bit and then remove it and it cool completely on a wire rack.
