Lola’s Kitchen is a feature on Lola’s Reviews where I talk about all things related to food, cooking and baking. These posts can be recipe posts, tens list posts about food or recipes or more discussion type posts about food. I love cooking and spend some time in the kitchen almost every day, so I wanted to give it a place on my blog as well. The banner for this feature is designed by Michelle from Limabean Designs.

Once while watching a Youtube channel, we came across a recipe for Dirty Rice and afterwards I went to Pinterest to find a recipe for it, so I could give it a try. This is a meat-y version, so I can’t say anything about the taste, but according to my boyfriend it’s delicious. It’s flavorful, but not too spicy. I am still meaning to try this once with vegetarian meat as I think that should work as well.

This recipe is based on Dirty Cajun Rice recipe

Ingredients

  • Minced meat half-half – 300 gram/ 0.66 pounds
  • Red Bell Pepper – 1
  • Onion – 1
  • Celery stick – 1
  • Garlic – 4 cloves
  • Rice – 3/4 cups dry or about 1 1/2 after cooking
  • Bay leaves – 2
  • Chicken or beef bouillon cubes – 1 1/2
  • Worcestershire sauce – 1/4 cup
  • Salt – a pinch
  • Black pepper – 1 teaspoon
  • Smoked paprika powder – 1 heaped teaspoon
  • Cayenne powder – a pinch (or more if you want it more spicy)
  • Onion powder – a pinch
  • Thyme (dried) – 1 heaped teaspoon
  • Water
  • Olive Oil

Method

  1. First slice and dice the onion and garlic. Put it in a wok with some oil and start baking till translucent.
  2. While the onion is baking cut the red bell pepper and celery in pieces. Don’t add it to the wok yet.
  3. When the onion is translucent add the minced meat, break it up with a spoon a bit and let it bake until browned.
  4. Now start cooking the rice.
  5. To the wok now add the celery and red bell pepper. Bake for a few minutes. Then add the Worcestershire sauce, salt, bouillon cubes, smoked paprika powder, black pepper powder, onion powder cayenne pepper, bay leaves, thyme and a bit of water.
  6. Let it all cook for a while. When the rice is done, add it to the wok and mix well.
  7. Remove the bay leaves from the dish and serve then.

    • I actually ended up making a vegetarian version of this one as well so I could try it too :). It turned out pretty good.
