When an incubus murders the powerful ally of an anti-paranormal senator, it’s up to hotshot Federal exorcist John Starkweather to catch the demon before it can kill again. Fortunately, he has backup, in the form of his boyfriend Caleb, a telekinetic possessed by the vampire spirit Gray.

As the political pressure mounts and bodies pile up, John discovers an old enemy protecting the incubus: the Fist of God, a group that believes all paranormals are evil. But why would the Fist work with a demon? And why would they let it kill one of their own allies?

John and Caleb need to find out fast. Because the incubus lurks at the intersection of love and longing, and it’s willing to turn their deepest desires against them.

My Review

Reaper of Souls is the third book in the SPECTR series. I’ve been enjoying this paranormal romantic suspense series so far and this was another great read. In reaper of Souls the case is about an incubus they have to catch. For a long time they keep missing the bad guy, until they figure out some more pieces and then everything comes together.

This book is fast paced and has plenty of action, but there are also more quiet moments to develop the characters and relationship a bit more. It was interesting to see a bit about a different type of NHE in this book this time an incubus. It also was interesting how they have multiple encounters before they figure out who the incubus is and where to find him so he won’t escape.

This book mostly has Caleb and John’s relationship on solid ground which was nice. They still have some doubts, but they are together for this whole story and I liked seeing their relationship deepen a bit. John realizes the depth of his feelings more and it feels like their relationship is deeper now that they decided to move in together.

One of my favorite parts of this series is learning more about Gray, the non human entity that inhabits Caleb’s body. It’s so interesting to have these two souls in one body and how they make it work. There are some new things we learn about Gray in this book. While it goes slowly I like every new piece we learn and how it gives us a better feel for Gray. While they still want to get Gray exorcised it’s also clear Caleb and Gray are starting to deal a bit better with the whole situation. And I can’t wait to see how the situation with Gray develops.

To summarize: another great read in this series. This book has a fast paced plot with plenty of action, but also more quiet moments for the character and relationship development. I liked the plot line of this one with the bad guy arriving early, but it takes a while for everything to fall on it’s place. There are some interesting developments character wise. And as usual I liked learning more about Gray, we only get small pieces, but with each book we learn a bit more. The romance turns a bit more serious as the two characters move in together. I have a speculations about what will happen next and I am looking forward to reading the next book.
