My Review
I received an audio copy from Tantor and voluntarily reviewed it.
The Shadow Weave is the second book in the Spell Weaver series. I really liked book 1 and I was eager to listen to the second book. I thought this was a great sequel. It nicely build on what happened in book 1 and added more depth to the world and characters.
In this book Lyre and Clio are on the run from their enemies in the Underworld and have to travel to the Overworld to catch up with the person who stole Lyre’s most dangerous spell and prevent him from using it. I liked seeing more of both Earth and the Overworld in this book. There’s a lot of traveling around and plenty of action. The end has some big reveals, some of which have been foreshadowed a bit already. This plot kept my attention and I wanted to keep reading, there are some moments the pacing felt a bit slower, but all in all I thought this was a very engaging second book.
I liked getting to know more about both Lyre and Clio. As well as seeing their bond deepen. We get descriptions of both their true forms and see them in action in their true form. There is more about both their magics and lots of epic magic battles again in this book. Clio is such a likable character, she’s a bit naïve and out of her depth, but she’s learning quickly and I liked seeing her try her best to handle whatever situation they landed in. Lyre has gone through a lot and goes through more in this book, I liked seeing him grow closer to Clio and realize there is someone who cares for him. Their romance deepens in this book and there are some heated make-out sessions in this one. I really like these two together and look forward to seeing their romance develop even more in book 3.
One of my favorite parts of this book was seeing the world building get expanded upon. I enjoyed seeing more of Earth, the consul they visit and how the demons live there. Then there is the Overworld and I liked reading about it as well as the new casts of demons we get introduced to. There’s also more about both Lyre and Clio’s powers. There are some scenes that really emphasize how dangerous Lyre’s incubus magic is as well as Clio’s mimic ability.
The narrators again do a great job with this one and I really liked listening to this book.
To summarize: This was an awesome sequel. I really enjoyed listening to this book. There plenty going on plot wise and I enjoyed seeing Lyre and Clio deal with trying to travel to the Overworld in this one. This book has plenty of action and a lot of those involve demon magic. The ending has some interesting reveals and I am eager to see what happens next after the way this book ended. This book expands and builds on a lot of book 1, there’s more about the characters, the romance and the world. I liked getting to know Clio and Lyre more and seeing them grow closer. I also liked reading more about both Earth and the Overworld as they spend more time there in this book. The ending is action packed and the way it ends has me eager to read the next one.
They sound like a neat pair and the book’s worldbuilding is interesting.
I just started book 3 and look forward to see how things wrap up for them. The world building is very interesting and I hope there will be more of that in this book as well.
Sounds like a good continuation of book 1 and you’ll keep going with the series. Great review!
I just started book 3, so hopefully it’s just as good as the first 2.
