Monster's MistakeMonster’s Mistake (Blackthorn Academy for Supernaturals #16)
by Laura Greenwood

My Rating: 4 stars

Genre: Paranormal Romance/ Academy
Age Category: New Adult
Type of romance: m/f

Blurb:
Turning your fated mate into stone has to be the worst first kiss in history…

Nati has always worried about what it would be like to date someone when she has snakes for hair and the ability to turn people into stone. But even then, the last person she intends to date is Meic with his cheesy chat-up lines and too much confidence.

Meic has known that Nati is his fated mate since the moment they met, the problem is that every time he opens his mouth, he puts his foot in it. Until he finally tells her that they’re fated.

Everything is looking up for them until Nati accidentally uses her gorgon magic and creates a whole host of new problems – one that they’ll only be able to solve if they work together.

Monster’s Mistake is book sixteen in the Blackthorn Academy for Supernaturals shared world, featuring a gorgon who’d rather not turn her fated mate into stone, a cinnamon roll and kind of dorky ghoul, a magical mishap, and more.

My Review

I bought this one shortly after release day as I really like Laura Greenwood’s books and enjoyed the other book she wrote in the Blackthorn Academy for Supernatural series. While this is book 16 in the series, it can be read as a standalone, but I was glad I read Monster’s Past by Laura Greenwood first. Monster’s Mistake main characters were side characters in Monster’s past and I enjoyed seeing the couple from that book as side characters here.

I had so much fun reading this one and enjoyed it even more than Monster’s Past. I really liked both Nati and Meic. They are fated mates, but instead of telling her that Meic makes all these badly done gorgon jokes in an attempt to flirt with her. Nati always has felt a certain pull for Meic, but his weird jokes are off-putting and she isn’t sure what to make of him. Then Meic finally gets around to telling her she’s his fated mates and they figure out what that means together and grow closer.

I really liked this books. Nati and Meic are so fun together and I liked the whole set up with her turning him into stone. I liked their banter and seeing them grow closer. I liked how they figure things out together and communicate. They were just so cute and sweet together. There’s also some steam later on.

I also liked reading about their supernatural types, especially all the gorgon stuff was so interesting and well done. I liked how the author added all these details from how the turning into stone works to the snakes having different personalities to how the snakes start growing in young gorgons. It also was fun learning a bit about ghouls, but I just thought the gorgon lore was more interesting. I liked how some scenes took place in the divination classroom, giving it that academy vibe as well as some scenes in the dining room as they have breakfast or lunch there with their friends. I hope the merman side character gets his own story too!

To summarize: I really enjoyed this one. Nati and Meic are both fun characters to read about and I liked seeing them grow closer and start a relationship. They are so sweet together and there is some steam later on. I really liked all the information about gorgons in this universe and there were so many interesting parts. I also liked the academy vibes and how some scenes took place in the Divination classroom as well as some others around campus. I hope the author writes more books in this series!

    • I agree and it was even better with how much depth there was to especially what being a Gorgon entailed, it was very interesting.
