My Rating: 3 stars

Genre: Alternate History Urban Fantasy/ Mythology/ Paranormal Romance
Age Category: New Adult
Type of romance: m/f

Blurb:
A family legacy is a lot to live up to – especially for Nephthys’ newest apprentice.

Shan knows her parents expect a lot from her, especially when it comes to which of the Egyptian gods she’ll serve after the Day of Choosing.

Despite knowing what she wants, Shan finds herself questioning her place in the temple, and whether Nephthys has chosen to bless her with magic for the right reasons. But with her twin brother, and his best friend, by her side encouraging her, can she finally claim the place that’s rightfully hers?

Legacy Of Wings is a standalone companion story to The Apprentice Of Anubis & Scales Of Justice series, an urban fantasy set in an alternative version of London where the Egyptian Empire never fell. Legacy Of Wings can be read as a standalone and includes a brother’s best friend/friends to lovers m/f romance.

My Review

I wanted to read this story before starting the Scales of Justice series as the love interest for that series is a side character in this one. Legacy of Wing follows Shan who is under a lot of pressure form her parents as they have a certain idea of what they want her life to be like. She becomes Nephthys’ newest apprentice exactly like her parents hoped for. And she struggles with finding her own path in life even if some things do or don’t line up with what her parents want for her.

This one didn’t grip me as much as Scales of Honesty that I read before this one, but I still enjoyed it. Shan felt relatable with her anxiety and worries and dealing with the family pressure. I especially liked the ending and seeing her figure out what she wants from her life and going for that. I thought it was interesting how some of her choices and paths do align with what her parents want and she struggles with how she feels about that as she doesn’t just want to do things because they are expected, but slowly she finds her way and listen to her own feelings.

There’s a romance plot line as well as she falls for her friend Mesu. I liked their romance and connection, but would’ve liked a bit more scenes between them. As they are already friends a lot of their connection is already there and it transforms into the beginnings of a romantic relationship here.

I also liked seeing Shan get chosen as Blessed during the ceremony and figuring out how to be an apprentice. I liked seeing a bit about this goddess’ temple and learning a bit about her as I don’t know a lot about mythology. Shan has a kite as sacred animal named Kema and there are some fun scenes with Kema.

To summarize: I wanted to read this one first as some of the characters will play a role in the new Scales of Justice series. While this book didn’t grip me as much as I had hoped, I still enjoyed it. I especially liked seeing Shan figure out what she wanted from life and not worrying as much about what her parents wanted for her. There’s a cute friends to lovers romance, but I would’ve liked a bit more scenes with the two of them. I look forward to starting the Scales of Justice series soon!

    • I am glad I read this one before I started the other series as knowing a bit of Ben already and his family from this book helped. So even though I didn’t enjoy this book as much as some of her others, I am still glad I read it.
