My Rating: 4 stars

Genre: Science Fiction Romance
Age Category: Adult
Type of romance: m/f

Blurb:
A high octane sexy space heist from New York Times-bestselling author Beth Revis, the first in a novella trilogy

Ada Lamarr may have gotten to the spaceship wreck first, but looter’s rights won’t get her far when she’s got a hole in the side of her ship and her spacesuit is almost out of air. Fortunately for her, help arrives in the form of a government salvage crew—and while they reluctantly rescue her from certain death, they are not pleased to have an unexpected passenger along on their classified mission.

But Ada doesn’t care—all that matters to her is enjoying their fine food and sweet, sweet oxygen—until Rian White, the government agent in charge, starts to suspect that there’s more to Ada than meets the eye. He’s not wrong—but he’s so pretty that Ada is perfectly happy to keep him paying attention to her—at least until she can complete the job she was sent to pull off. But as quick as Ada is, Rian might be quicker—and she may not be entirely sure who’s manipulating who until it’s too late…

A phenomenally fun novella that kicks off a trilogy of sexy space heists and romantic tension, Full Speed to a Crash Landing is packed with great characters and full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the end.

My Review

I received a copy from the publisher through Edelweiss and voluntarily reviewed it.

When my friend and fellow book reviewer Sophia told me she was reading this book my first reaction was to visit Edelweiss and see if I could get a copy too. Luckily I got approved and not long afterwards started reading it.

When I started Full Speed to a Crash Landing I wasn’t quite sure what to think of it at first and it took me some time to get into the story, but the hints that got dropped and my curiosity about what it all meant kept me reading and soon I was having a great time reading this book. I wanted to know what secrets Ada kept, both from the crew who rescued her as well as the reader. There are all those little hints of there being more going on as well as the mystery surrounding this super important item they’re retrieving and it had me curious to read more. The ending has some great twists and reveals and makes me eager for book 2.

I felt like Ada wasn’t always the most likable character, she could be a bit too snarky and pessimistic for my taste, but I also felt she was a very realistic character. She obviously has been through some tough stuff and it has shaped her. The moment where she shows some vulnerability or shares something real about herself with Rian were my favorite moments. And her appreciation of food was nice to see too.

The romance is on the slower side, but that makes sense given they both mistrust the other at first. They grow closer throughout the book and there are some great scenes with the two of them. I definitely want to see more of them. And then the end just leaves me excited to see what is next for these two.

To summarize: This was an exciting start to this series. It took me a bit of time to get into the book and Ada isn’t always the most likable character, but she felt real and the story kept me curious and wanting to read more. The further I got the more I wanted to keep reading and find out more about the secrets they’re keeping and the mystery surrounding the important object they’re retrieving. The ending has a great twist and reveal and makes me look forward to book 2. The romance is on the slower side as they start mistrusting the other, but there are some great scenes involving them and I look forward to seeing more of them.

  1. I was so glad you ended up enjoying it. Ada is definitely complex and hard to know at this stage, but Rien was easy to like. I can’t wait to get to know them better and learn more of the secrets in the next book. Great review!

    • I am glad you mentioned this one to me and I could get it as well. I look forward to book 2 and seeing how it all plays out.
