For today’s top ten list post we could pick our own topic, so I picked favorite books with neurodivergent main characters. I got diagnosed as autistic earlier this year, it has changed a lot in my life and one of the things I’ve done is trying to read more books with neurodivergent characters.
I limited my picks to books that I read so far in 2023 (there’s one book I read in 2022) and fiction books only. I also selected only books where in the book itself it is made clear the main character is neurodivergent or the author has explicitly stated this. In the case of most of these books neurodivergent means the main character is autistic, an ADHD’er or both of those. I am linking up with Books of My Heart.

Most of these are new to me. I know I read a few books with this type of character, I think they might have been YA books or maybe in the SmartyPants Romance series. I’ll definitely be looking up some of these to read!

Most of these books were the first books I read by these authors and I didn’t know them before this. Let me know if you remember any of the titles of books you read with neurodivergent main character as I would like to look them up :).
Great topic choice. Thanks so much for sharing. My daughter was recently diagnosed as autistic also

I thought it made for a great topic as I’ve been trying to read more books with neurodivergent main characters and wanted to share them. It’s been very helpful knowing I am autistic, I hope it’s been helpful for your daughter as well.
I love that you picked a topic that has become near and dear to your heart. I do want to read The Honey Bear series at some point.

I felt this would be a perfect topic for this top ten list where we could choose our own topic. I definitely recommend The Honey Bear Series, I am eagerly awaiting book 3.
Some of these look really good. I’m glad you enjoyed them!

They were all really good reads.
I loved The Kiss Quotient and the rest of the books in that series because of all the neurodivergent characters.

I heard of that series before, but haven’t read it yet, will have to look it up.
I haven’t read any of these but I did read a few books with a neurodivergent main character. Off the top of my head I can only think of one: The Happy Life of Isadora Bentley. It was so good!
Thanks for the recommendation! I’ll look that one up, hadn’t heard of it before.
Ooh nice list! I love that are sff books here! I do love seeing rep in my favorite genres.
