The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.
What happened this week?
This week was a lot. We moved to our new house last Saturday and the move was super stressful and took most of the day, then afterwards we stillhad to clean and sort a few things before we could go to sleep. The rest of the week has been filled with resolving issues with the house and unpacking as wel as reparing and painting the old house. It has been a lot.
I remember mentioning the painting of the new house and most of that got done, my boyfriend still painted one last wall on Sunday after we moved in, but that’s all done now. Then on Monday our new kitchen got installed, which was a mess with boxes everywhere and hardly any space for them to work with due to the house being small, they also wished they could’ve done this before the moving, but the compaany that organized all of this was a pain to work with.
The actual kitchen installation went okay, but they forgot a few things, the faucet was leaking in multiple spots, I managed to resolve some of those myself as they hadn’t turned things enough, but someone else had to come and fix that. Our bathroom sink was also leaking and our shower faucet didn’t have much power, so they looked at that as well. The shower faucet works fine now, but we have to wait for a new part for the bathroom sink, so that will be a bit longer. The people who did the kitchen also forgot to make all the holes they needed so our stove could be connected with the gas, the only way to get that done now is with the stove in the middle of our alreayd small kitchen. It has been a pain cooking like that, but I was desprerate fora home cooked meal after days of eating takeout and ready made meals, so I braved the stove anyway. I almost burned myself and bumped the pan off the stove, but I made food.
On Monday we got called about our old house and we got told we have to paint the whole house white, fix any holes and such and the house has to be completely empty. So my boyfriend and his dad have been working on that despite already being exhausted from working in the new house. While I did the unpacking and handling things in the new house. We both have been very tired. I felt pretty dissociated for most of the week, which has been a bit of a blessing as it made it possible to get everything done, but I am slowly getting out of that and struggling more mentally.
And those are only the big things, so many things went wrong or not smoothly with this move. We were joking that it felt like the move was cursed.
The actual house is great, the neighborhood is super calm and quiet. The village we live in is super idyllic and looks like a an advertisement for the quintessential dutch town. A lot of the buildings are only a few stories high and made of the typical red brick and with slanted roofs. It looks very pretty. It apparently is a tourist town and we’ve heard many different languages while out and about. We found a small piece of forest nearby where we walked and we had a delicious dinner at a local pizzeria. We haven’t made it to the beach yet, but it should be a close by and near enough to walk or cycle. I hope we can get the things done that still need to get done and then relax for a bit, but that might be another week or two.
And since last Thursday I have this weird spot in my vision. So I also had to call our doctor and eventually got a call with an optometrist and they think it’s an eye migraine. It is getting less, so I have to check another week to see if it goes away or else call again. And I got a huge blister on my finger from trying to clean a weird mark the previous renter left on the floor, so that’s annoying. And that’s next to all the muscle pain from the move. I also had another bad headache for two days. My boyfriend also has been struggle with a lot of muscle pain from the moving, painting and renovatin. And then he got a bad splinter in his hand, luckily he got it out the next day after the use of some type of salve which helped with that. So yeah physically not doing so well either.
My mom got another test late last week and next week we hear whether she has cancer and where it’s located as this latest test should be able to tell that. I noticed she was having less energy during the move and it’s hard to see my mom not doing so well.
What did I read this week?
I didn’t read a lot, but managed to finish two Laura Greenwood’s that kept my attention and made some progress on other books. I also DNF’d a book.
This week I blogged about:
– Review: The Blood Curse by Annette Marie
– Review: I Cross-Dressed for the IRL Meetup 2 by Kurano
– Review: The Bat Ward’s Watch by Laura Greenwood and Ariana Jade
What to expect next week on the blog:
– Review: What Happens in Amsterdam by Rachel Lynn Solomon
– Review: Starlight and Space Between by Alicia Haberski
– Review: There’s Justice in Secrets by Laura Greenwood
Ugh, that sucks that you have to go back and do all that painting at your old place! And I hope they get all the little things fixed in your new place soon too. I’m thinking I am going to have to have the plumbers back out for my kitchen sink/drain again sadly. Not looking forward to one more bill. I hope you get to feeling better this week. It is rough seeing your mom moving slower. That’s kind of how I felt a bit on the cruise seeing my mom struggle with her mobility so much. Here’s hoping this is a better week for you!

It really is annoying we have to paint the old house, my boyfriend has been busy there for most of this week and will be busy for a few more days unfortunately. I hope all the little things get resolved here soon. That’s a shame you have to call the plumbers back again, it’s easier if it gets resolved in one visit and another bill isn’t nice either. It really was rough to see my mom doing worse, I hope we get some good news this week about the treatment options.
I imagine you’re dead on your feet about now. But, the bulk of the move is done and hopefully all the slip-shod work with kitchen and bathroom will be repaired soon so you and your boyfriend can get comfortable in your new home. Hoping along with you for your mom’s test results will be something good. Wishing you well with the headaches and muscle pains. Your new town seems lovely and hope you get to explore more of it and the beach soon.
Wow, you got a couple books read, too.
Take care, Lola!
I’ll be messaging you back again soon to, trying to get everything back in order slowly. And yes I definitely feel wrecked after all of that. Hopefully all the things that still need to get done will be finished soon and we can start enjoying our new house. I am glad with how nice our new town seems so far and hope to do some more exploring soon. I am hoping for some good news tomorrow when my mom gets her test results back.
I don’t get why you have to do everything at the new place and the old place. Shouldn’t the people moving out have had to do more at your new place? Or did that make things less expensive? Anyway, I’m sorry it was stressful. Maybe everything doesn’t have to be unpacked right away so you can rest a bit? Hopefully this week will be much smoother.

That’s the same thing we were annoyed about that we had to take care of both houses. The walls in the new house were white so they didn’t have to paint them, but they were very dirty and ugly, so we wanted to paint them. While in the old house we decided to paint the walls when we started living there and they have rules you have to leave the house empty and with white walls, so now we have to take care of that as we didn’t have white walls. I have unpacked the most important stuff, so hopefully I can take it a bit easier next week.
Oh my goodness! Cheeky that they insisted you have to return to your old place and repaint it. I very much hope all the issues with the new place are soon resolved. It sounds like the location is lovely, however and I hope you get a chance to properly enjoy it very soon:)). And best of luck with your mum’s test – you certainly have a lot going on right now. Sending hugsx
Yeah we were not pleased we had to repaint the old house and remove all the flooring and fix all the small drill holes in the walls. And I hope the issues with the place will be resolved in a week or two so we can fully relax and explore the new location. We just got some news about my mom’s test and she has a type of cancer that’s probably more curable than they feared it would be, so that’s better than expected and we hear more later this week about her treatment. It sure feels like everything is happening at the same time.
Things sure are different where you live. Here if we move into a place we are renting, the manager/owner has to clean, repair and paint before we move in. And when we move out all we have to do is clean not paint.
Here the previous renter has to clean the house, paint it white and remove the flooring and anything else they added unless the next renter wants it. We agreed to keep the flooring and some other things in the new house.
As we painted the old house in different colors it has to be white now and the new house had dirty and ugly walls so we wanted those painted. My boyfriend has been doing a lot of painting.
Makes more sense how it’s done where you live with the manager/ owner making sure to clean, repair and paint instead of the previous renter doing that all.
